Hello,

I don't think there is a thread for Yale GEPN applicants for Fall 2025 start, so here it is! Let's share knowledge and cheer each other on! Also, if there is an existing thread, please let me know.

I want to submit my application soon, but I keep re-reading and editing my essays... Anyone else doing the same thing? I have been out of school for almost 10 years, and I'm getting flashbacks to high school/undergrad days!

Additionally, has anyone sent a transcript via Parchment? My transcript should have been received by Oct 21, but on NursingCAS, it says it hasn't received.

Thanks, and I look forward to communicating with you all!

This platform is so not user-friendly!! Just wanted to say at the aid talk they said they need the FAFSA to provide the aid but they use nursingcas to determine need amounts ( I thought it was odd so I asked about it) they insisted that it will not change when receiving the FAFSA.

Can you provide the link for nurse corps I have been circling their website, thanks so much!

Hey guys if you're worried about loans there's still a lot of time to apply for HPSP or nurse corps for full coverage of tuition plus stipend.

Hi everyone,

Congratulations on your acceptance into the program.  I would just add that if you are a GEPN thinking of the Nurse Corp or NHSC program, you will need to complete your first year and obtain your RN license before you can apply for the scholarship program.  You can double-check with the financial aid office on the timings.  This is especially true for Nurse Corp.

Additionally, NHSC tuition and fees are not subject to federal taxes but the stipend is.  For Nurse Corp, everything including tuition, fees, and stipend are subject to federal income tax and will be counted as such which will impact the amount of taxes you will need to pay each year you are in the program.  The HSPA score requirements are also different for each.  There is also special funding within Nurse Corp for special populations that are not in NHSC.  NHSC is also open to MD, DO, and PA while Nurse Corp is only open to nurses.  Just something to keep in mind when you are applying for either of those scholarships.

See program guidance below:

Usually, it is around March of each year and they give you until June/July to complete the application but it changes slightly each year.  I would recommend that you sign up for the e-mail alerts which you can do through the website I linked above.  There is a link to "Sign up for emails" at the top of each page.

OK thanks, I did subscribe to the email list. Are you all waiting to hear back from other schools as well? I'm debating on Yale knowing the cost factor, so waiting  to see what other schools are offering as well before I commit.

Do we have to apply to that when we're in school or after we graduate?

Let me know if you got access! Yes mostly about the loan options and going to the open house on Feb 7th. I am based in Cali so doubtful ( maybe)  I will go but if you are closer it sounded cool.

Thank you so much! this was so helpful! Sorry, if you don't mind me asking what they said about February 7th? I am close by so I'd like to check it out for sure.

You apply for the Nurse Corp and/or NHSC scholarships while you are a student.  HRSA Loan Repayment with either Nurse Corp or NHSC after graduation if you desire to work with patients that FQHCs serves.

Hi everyone! Congrats to all who got accepted 🙂 I'm in for GEPN-CNM!

I'm wondering if anyone would feel comfortable sharing the merit- and need-based aid amounts they received? I have no baseline for what's generous or not and am wondering if there is any room to negotiate my offer. For transparency, I was offered $10K/year merit and $4K/year need-based, totaling $42K over the course of the entire program. This definitely helps but I'm still trying to figure out how I'll pay for the rest. Thank you in advance!

Also GEPN-CNM! I was offered $9K merit per year and $2K need but not sure how that was calculated I haven't submitted the FAFSA... I knew they considered everyone for merit with their application but thought it was one of those things they just say and maybe one person will get a couple grand so that's cool.

I'm finishing up my BA this year and so excited to start midwifery school next year! Still waiting to consider all my options especially since I don't know how to drive...

Curious for people in dual CNM/WHNP why they chose both? I've spoken to a few people and it seems like the scope of CNM covers everything WHNP can do (but a WHNP cannot do everything a CNM can do) so is there a benefit to having a WHNP credential as well?
