I've never posted here before but I am going to be applying to Yale School of Nursing this fall for a 2015 start in the GEPN program, CNM/WHNP cohort. Wondering if there are others out there preparing to do the same? I'm heading down to their info session next week.
I have a couple of friends down there who said (and I noticed this while visiting as well) that Orange is mostly suburban with very few apartments to rent. Things are spaced out and there's a lot of shopping centers and chain stores around. Most students live in New Haven, specifically within the East Rock and Wooster Square neighborhoods. It's very close to the old campus and there is a shuttle that runs from those neighborhoods to the School of Nursing in Orange. From East Rock to YSN, it's a 15 minute drive.
Hi BriAllene, I don't mind sharing.... I got a B.A. in Biology from a liberal arts college and studied mainly oceanography/environmental science. I was an EMT through college, then worked in Yosemite for a season post-graduation. I also worked as a medical assistant in Nicaragua and a midwifery apprentice in Oregon. I applied to Penn, Vanderbilt, Yale and OHSU's midwifery programs. I was admitted to 2 and waitlisted at the others, and my decision really came down to finances and gut feeling about where I would be happier. My path to midwifery was pretty circuitous, but I tried to communicate my passion for women's health in my essay and interview. I think maybe having EMT and birth experience helped me, but I don't know for sure why I was accepted!
I also had my interview this morning for FNP specialty (just got the invite last week). It was kind of a tough interview for sure. They must do their RN-MSN interviews very differently , since it was definitely nothing like the conversational style that the GEPN interviewees wrote about. I honestly have no idea how I did- eek! Does anyone know when RN decisions are coming out?
