Yale GEPN 2023

Published

Hello everyone! This thread is for folks applying to Yale's GEPN program for the fall 2023 start.

Feel free to introduce yourself, ask questions and offer guidance and support to other candidates. Please be respectful and kind and remember that this is a long, exhausting, expensive, stressful journey for lots of people. Let's do our best to uplift and help each other. Good luck!

Still waiting patiently .. but on another note, has anyone noticed the significant difference in tuition costs between Yale and other similar programs such as UPenn, Columbia, Emory etc.? Is there a reason for this?

From the research I've done comparing Yale and Emory, Emory is one semester longer than Yale so I think that plays a big part. Not sure about the other schools though.

More or less expensive? All are way too dang expensive.

Emory is like 30,000 more than Yale (this is my estimated calculation since no one posted officially posted their tuition).

Columbia's program is a DNP program and 3-3.5years long so that's why they're more.

IDK why emory is so much more at around 135k when it looks like Yale and Penn both come in at around 100k.

So frustrating how confusing it is to figure out the total program costs (although I am confident this is intentional). That being said, I thought it was roughly 150k for all 3 years? Am I mistaken? Online I read that the first year was $69k and each following year was roughly 40k but again I have no idea

I had calculated the rough total cost for Yale's GEPN program as roughly $168k.
Per their Tuition and Fees Page
(https://nursing.yale.edu/admissions-aid/financial-aid/tuition-and-fees )
First GEPN Year: $69,776
Second and Third MSN Years: $49,356 / year = $98,712 total
Three Year Total: $168,488

But that's just how I read the site, not sure if that's 100% accurate!

And of course not inclusive of housing / living expenses and I'm sure some other hidden costs ~ hoping for generous scholarship offers for everyone ?

I work with someone who graduated from the GEPN program around 5 years ago and she had only around 100k debt with no familial support, scholarships, or independent wealth. To me that indicates they have raised the price of the program a lot over the last 8 years, and I really hope that is so they can provide better scholarships and aide because honestly I'm not sure this is the right path for me if my debt is going to be so much greater than what I can expect my income to be.

I am also hoping for some financial assistance from Yale. Johns Hopkins has offered me a generous amount for their program, so if I do get accepted at Yale but without much financial assistance, I'm thinking that I may have to turn down the offer....

Yeah there is NO way I can go without financial assistance. I already have 75k undergrad debt. Even with loan forgiveness programs, I cannot in good faith go into that much more debt, especially considering my second and third choices are 1/3 the cost of Yale.

If you do not mind me asking, do you receive financial assistance for their direct entry MSN (2 yrs) program? Thank you!

I am not sure if I am answering this correctly, but assuming that you were asking about the JHU program— and in that case, yes, the JHU direct entry MSN program is the one that I received a scholarship amount for.
