Hello everyone! This thread is for folks applying to Yale's GEPN program for the fall 2023 start.
Feel free to introduce yourself, ask questions and offer guidance and support to other candidates. Please be respectful and kind and remember that this is a long, exhausting, expensive, stressful journey for lots of people. Let's do our best to uplift and help each other. Good luck!

OK! would you say its easy to get around new haven? Im just worried about the driving aspect especially if I won't be able to bring my car up there. and being from the south I am not good at driving in the snow

I can't speak directly to Yale's program (I attended Penn's), but I think this is probably true of most programs similar in structure, so I'm going to speak super generally and hope it helps a little.
In my experience, the accelerated/RN portion of the program, most programs try to place you in hospitals nearby in groups of students. But then in the NP portion of the program, while they can find you clinical placements that don't require a car, that might not be in your best interest as it limits your clinical options. A lot of NP students try to get matched with clinical placements that prepare them for the type of job they want post-graduation. Sometimes this means driving farther than you had hoped in exchange for a stellar clinical experience. I also was scared to drive in the snow (California girl here). But I ended up buying a car and was super glad I did. Definitely came in handy for the NP portion of the program.
Also, I haven't asked them this question directly, but based on informal chats, it seems most my former clients now in Yale's program brought their cars with them and seem to be using regularly.

Yes, I've been there. I was accepted to Emory, Vanderbilt, Penn, Yale and Case Western. I ultimately choose Yale because I'm from New England, but narrowing down the choices can be very stressful. Best of luck.

Hi all, I am applying for Fall 2024 and wanted to ask a question. Regarding clinicals, are most of them in the New Haven area or does it require a lot of driving outside of new haven? I am from Georgia and will be deciding between Emory and Yale (assuming I get into yale, have already gotten into emory), and most likely may not have a car up in connecticut
