Yale GEPN 2021

Published

Hey all! I am reapplying and wanted to create this for everyone applying. I won't be as involved as I was last year, but good luck to everyone! I know they're having seminars and allowing people to schedule one on one consultations for applications.

I took Lifespan Development, A&P 1 and 2, Intro to Nutrition, Stats, Microbiology and Gen Psych, and will take Chem this Spring.

@secondtimer14 I took all of my prerequisites at my local CC. I was able to take Lifespan before Gen Psych because I entered as a non-matriculated student, and contacted a counselor to override the Gen Psych prereq, but loved the professor so much I decided to take Gen Psych too. You may be able to contact them to do the same.

Anyone trying to get some last minute prerequisites in? Trying to get stats done, doubt it will give me much of an admissions boost since I was a math undergrad (a little salty about the 5 year expiration date most schools have for it LOL) but figure its more productive than constantly checking my emails!

Hi all!

I have completed A&P 1 and 2 with labs

As I have a midwifery background (CPM school) I have completed their Biology classes as well.

I have one grad Stats class from my MPH

All my psychology classes (some from UG, some at a CC)

I will be completing my Microbiology class with lab this Spring (online, at UNE was my plan but I will look at Portage too, thanks so much for the tip--basically the cheapest that they will accept, I will do:) )

I am catching up on this thread at the same time... here is what I know for starting salaries:

as a CNM, the numbers I have in mind are 75-100 ish depending on the institution

Financial help: sorry no great tips, I am not a citizen yet ( I am a permanent resident) and I have zero experience with FAFSA.  I was asked to file a FAFSA application, so I just did.

I am now looking at NurseCorps and other HRSA programs, I am planning to practice in underserved areas but unsure whether they accept permanent residents.

Happy New Year everyone!

I'm also satly about the expiration as I came up on I think 2 (stats and chem). I'm focusing on A and P right now though.  I figure what can it hurt? worst comes to worst it doesn't matter, best case scenario they actually look at it and does make a difference

Should we start a list of scholarships/programs here?

(apologies if someone already did)

so far I have:

Public sources:

federal:

-Nurse Corps/HRSA scholarship program and loan repayment program (this last I believe is for once we graduate, but hey at least I'll have it on my radar)

Deadline: so far I am seeing an April deadline for last cycle

-Other federal programs? I believe there is a program for nurses dedicated to becoming educators. I will post it here when I find it.

state:

State loan repayment and scholarships may be available as well.

Private funds/scholarships:

I am aware of some in the area of rural health and will post them here as well.

-------------------

I think I remember YSN admissions folks gave us a nice list of funding sources when I attended an info session 2 years ago. I have no idea where it is now, but in case someone has anything similar, feel free to post it!

Hope this helps!

Great idea! I'm not aware of any other federal programs that provides a large amount of money. I remember that list too but I don't have the link smh

Hi everyone,

I really appreciate everyone's advice and suggestions on here!!

As far as prereqs: I've taken Stats, Biology (hadn't taken since high school), Microbiology, A&P I and II, General Psychology, and Lifespan Development all in the last couple years at my local community college. I hadn't heard of Portage, so that is great to know!

A year ago or more, I looked up some nursing-specific scholarships. I honestly haven't even looked at these yet, but here are some websites:

Worst timing ever but I just started a new full time job in a new field with insane hours. I haven't been able to even think about the interview and I am feeling distraught and very behind. How is everyone preparing? Especially those with hectic schedules. I feel so frazzled right now and exhausted, I don't even know where to begin.

That's rough, and I hope everything moves harmoniously with the new job.

I just had an interview with Boston College. I kept my prep simple and did the following:

1. Came up with questions relevant to BC. and my specialty.

2. Looked at my interviewer's school bio.

3. Reviewed my application materials.

4. Was ready to answer "why nursing" type questions.

Hi all and Happy New Year!

Starting a new job and preparing for interviews is tough!

Here is what I do: not much!!

-mostly I try to breathe deeply and center on my vision for this particular thing I am trying to accomplish and where I know/feel deeply where my vision and the other party's (school, recruiter, program...) meet and what I bring to the table. I try to get to that deeply grounded place where I am am who I am with all my qualities and weak points that led me here today and why I think this encounter could lead to something and then try to articulate in my mind how this could look like (and of course I am open to what it looks like for them and what could be co created based on both our needs). I feel that feeling of groundedness deeply and I hold it into my consciousness.

I was a first gen college student and this has served me well thru processing imposter syndrome and feeling totally out of my league sometimes in my life...

-of course I do my homework, research the interviewer, go over the answers I gave in my essays and review the main points in my CV that I suspect they might want to discuss.

But really for me the bulk of the work is breathing and centering myself.

Sometimes the leaders/professors we meet are such amazingly accomplished folks I feel I have little to bring to the table so I really work on seeing and feeling what it is I do bring. Once I am centered I find I am better able to calm my anxiety and take them and their experiences in.

I try to take these interviews as a wonderful opportunity to connect with an amazing person and less like an interview with high stakes.

Hope it's helpful!

Oh and one more: I have in mind my other options and try to really feel that in life, one door closing is one other door opening and I would survive if I didn't make it.

Good luck everyone!

@ad202

Wonderful scholarship suggestions, thank you!

@Psychmeout2

About the list of scholarships, I imagine Financial Help must have tons of resources available for us, if they don't send it our way I will ask and will let you all know.
