Yale GEPN 2021

Published

Hey all! I am reapplying and wanted to create this for everyone applying. I won't be as involved as I was last year, but good luck to everyone! I know they're having seminars and allowing people to schedule one on one consultations for applications.

I think everyone needs to keep an eye out for any news coming out of YSN within the next couple of days. There was a VERY serious incident that occurred a few hours after my response today. A professor from YSM who co-teaches Anatomy said the N-word. We've spent the hours since debriefing, consoling, and working out problems within our cohort.

Whoa......as a person of color I can't even begin to describe how that affects me. Again thank you for the honesty. Is there a way to follow the story, like following the Yale daily or just googling over the next week?

Wow. This is vile. I had no idea that any of this was going on. Thank you to @APRNoneday for initiating this topic, and to @kc_FNPtobe for your honesty and transparency, as others have said. I wonder if it is worth reaching out to Jana for more information about what is happening and how YSN is planning to move forward...

Was the professor fired immediately, @kc_FNPtobe?

I did not want to answer until I had one for you all. The Dean just sent out an email that he will no longer be lecturing at YSN (however, he is a YSM lecturer - so I do not know about his status there). I do not know if it is wise to reach out to Jana as YSN is desperately working on this and no one has answers yet. I do, however, feel you all should have the right to be in on the talk I mentioned above. I'm so sorry for how this directly impacts you @Psychmeout2 and I agree @TellMeSomethingGood - it is vile. Our whole cohort spent 3 unmoderated hours on zoom with each other last night, which has never happened. No matter what the school does, remember the students join in together - and I hope that gives you a glimmer of hope and peace that no matter what, no one is left behind and we stick together.

This is so disappointing.

Thank you for being candid with us, @kc_FNPtobe. I hope we'll hear from YSN. Thank you for letting us know about the talk too. It is heartening to read that the students are united and supportive of each other.

Psychmeout2 I can only try to imagine how such news would make you feel, and I am sorry for how this impacts you.

Stunning that in 2021 someone teaching at one of the premier universities in the world would utter that word in class or classroom setting.

The way you all handled it by supporting and being there for one another is really great. Sorry you had to be party to that kind of behavior.

Sorry to break off from the current topic, but I have a school question that I'm hoping others may have some insight on. Anyone else applying to multiple schools? I applied to quite a few for Accelerated BSN/MSN programs and am getting conflicting instructions on filling out the FAFSA. For example, UPenn says to use the "5th year undergraduate" designation since they consider you to be an undergraduate for the BSN portion of the program. However, schools like Yale and Columbia want you to use the "1st year graduate/professional" designation. Unfortunately, there's no option for "I don't know, it depends on where I get in and where I decide to go"! So, I'm in a little bit of a dilemma because I don't know how to acquire financial aid package options from all of the schools (in order to make the correct decision for enrollment, et al) if I have to fill out the FAFSA differently depending on the school. Anyone else have this problem or know how to get around this?

Much appreciated!

@Daeron
You can submit your FAFSA and then make corrections later. If I were you, I'd submit my FAFSA to all the schools utilizing the 1st year
graduate/professional designation and then go in later and delete the other schools and update your information as 5th year undergraduate.  (The schools would still have your information even if you delete them through the make corrections option).
This link has more information. You can also email FAFSA to get more clarification. Hope this helps!

@kc_FNPtobe thank you so much for your post... My GRE scores were not great... If you are comfortable sharing some of your details with me I would appreciate it. It will possibly soothe my anxious soul - haha!

How are y’all gonna pay for this

To be honest, I am quite taken aback with the resignation of the DEI. This was my top program, but I am unsure if I want to be a part of a school where people of color are treated poorly.

As far as your question goes, loans, savings and being extremely frugal while in the program is how I plan to pay for the program.

So atrocious I won't even post it - I promise it'll make a lot of you feel better about your GRE's, haha. You can message me and I'll tell you.
