Yale GEPN 2021

Published

Hey all! I am reapplying and wanted to create this for everyone applying. I won't be as involved as I was last year, but good luck to everyone! I know they're having seminars and allowing people to schedule one on one consultations for applications.

I believe the application deadline is longer than last year, so the timeframes can be somewhat different.

Thank you so much for all the detailed information! It sounds like they didn't extend the application deadline your year like they did for ours (ours is now Nov 15th)?

There was no advanced notice of extensions. Our deadline was 10/31 or 11/1 (can't remember which). However, after the deadline, they extended for supplemental materials such as GRE scores, LORs, etc. They did not announce that until applications were submitted and were extended for those missing some things that were out of their control. For instance, I took my GRE 10/10ish and they did not receive my scores by the deadline so the supplemental extension was great. So, who knows the turnaround time could be the same since we somewhat had an unofficial extension.

I'm the same way about the first exam! I "failed" my first pharm exam (70), but got a 94 on our last one so my new average is 82...phew! I did not use the retake option for pharm, so that is still in my back pocket if I do poorly on either of the next 2 exams. There is a good sense of camaraderie. Everyone finds their "people" who share like-situations, like-causes, etc. Overall, very welcoming among students.

The same thing happened with me taking Micro for a pre reqs. Luckily, I did well enough that I never had to use my retake but it was still nice to have. That's awesome to hear. I've heard a lot of times in nursing school/med school some people can get super competitive or not want to come together. I'm the type of person who even though I'm introverted, I love forming genuine connections. Thank you so much for all your responses, IDK why I never got an email notification for this.

Hi everyone! I just submitted my application for the pediatric track, and have really enjoyed reading everyones comments on here. They've been super helpful ?. I graduated as a psychology major in 2019, and I am wondering if classes such as "neuropsychology", "biopsychology", and "experimental biopsychology" would be enough to give the admissions committee a good idea of my quantitative abilities? I also took human biology and statistics during undergrad, but I have not taken any other pre-reqs. Does anyone know if this will be a deal breaker for acceptance?

I was hoping you could comment on the recent accusations of racism at Yale's Nursing school.  I read that professors resigned? Would you say the climate at the school is safe? How about clinical sites?

Thank you.

There are? I haven't seen this. Is this in a particular newspaper or website?

There is a newspaper article out about racism at Yale’s School of Nursing. I was informed by someone who works there. Not quite sure of all the details though. I was told because I am applying.

Hello, @APRNoneday -

The articles posted are accurate representations of what is going on at YSN. However, as I am white - I do not feel I have the privilege to speak accurately enough on behalf of my brothers and sisters of color at the university.

YSN admin did just send out an email today for a virtual talk "Addressing Structural Racism and Prejudice in an Academic Department" that is on 11/18 @ 5:00pm EST by Dr. Marietta Vazquez. Maybe as current applicants, YSN would allow you in on it. I'd be disappointed if they did not allow you to join.

I know I did not provide much, but I hope I led you in the right direction of where you can get more informed answers.

Thank you for your answer, kc_FNPtobe, I really appreciate the time you took to reply in a day I imagine has got to be very full. I will reach out about the talk, thank you for passing this along.

Thank you for being honest,  a lot of times people are not for fear of retribution, they don't say anything when it's not happening to them personally, don't believe it's happening, or whatever reason. It's disappointing to hear this when a large part of what drew me to the program was their claim of an emphasis on social justice.

Ummmm...

I think everyone needs to keep an eye out for any news coming out of YSN within the next couple of days. There was a VERY serious incident that occurred a few hours after my response today. A professor from YSM who co-teaches Anatomy said the N-word. We've spent the hours since debriefing, consoling, and working out problems within our cohort.
