This is a tough decision. I would say to put your deposit down with UMass and then apply to USF in May. I'm assuming USF's program starts in August, so the deposit at UMass is so you have a backup school.

Thanks @SB88 for the guarantor information! I was not aware that is an option. @Nat31 I am not a NYC native nor do I live there currently, but my understanding is that landlords would want to see at least two recent paychecks in addition to your W2 to confirm your income.

Is there a word limit? I would try to keep it short. Maybe half a page or 3/4 of a page. Admissions offices have to go through a lot of applications, so I am sure they would appreciate students who are concise. The statement should start out explaining what hardships you suffered that caused you to have to retake the prerequisites and then end with you discussing what you learned from the experience and how it has made you a better student/person.

I would contact the school and clarify. That is certainly something you would want to have cleared up as soon as possible.

I do not know the specific types of questions that LSU will ask, but I have interviewed for other nursing schools and some of the interview questions that are asked are questions such as: What are your strengths you have that would contribute to the field of nursing? What are current issues in nursing? Share a time where you have failed and how this experience will help you as a nurse. What does diversity mean to you and how will you help to make our university diverse? Hope these help you! Best of luck!

First of all, this is your life. Please do not let anyone make you feel like you HAVE to do anything within an allotted timeframe. Also, attaining your ADN and then getting the BSN while working might actually be smarter because most employers would be willing to provide some type of tuition reimbursement for your to further your nursing education.

I agree that if possible you should try to get some experience in the health industry. I know volunteering can be hard now, but first hand experience would definitely help you make a decision. If you get experience and you are still not happy then you should definitely look into other career options. There are certainly many things you can do in healthcare besides nursing.

OMG! I am so sorry. I completely read your initial post wrong. If you can afford to put down the deposit to UMASS I would. Have you applied to any other schools or is it only UMASS or USF?

Hi, I do not know which program is better. I just wanted to say Congratulations on being accepted to both programs! To me, it sounds like you have more of an incentive to go to USF especially if you are wanting to purchase a house. This would also minimize the amount of loans you have to take out. Either way you are fortunate to have to choose between two great schools. Best of luck to you!

Is it true that to rent an apartment in NYC, you would have to make 40 times the rent? My concern is finding an apartment as a student especially if student loans can't be used for rent.
