Hi All,
I have been on the lookout for the 2020 thread but figured that I'll have to create one. I am sorry if there is one that I am not aware of.
I am a 2020 hopeful that is looking to make a career switch. I was at one of the information sessions where I gained further insights on the application process and the program. I took the GRE yesterday and was around the 50th percentile for both Q&V.
One of the changes to this years' requirements is that you don't need the GRE if you already have a masters degree or would complete one before the start of the 2020 session. I haven't taken the major prerequisites, but I will take and complete them in the summer of 2020.
I will start talking to my recommenders from next week, I have a tentative list that I composed with a view of having them tell different stories about my candidacy.
May I crave the indulgence of both current and past GEPNs and the benevolence of prospective class of 2020 to make this thread the best one yet. Your views and insights are welcome and appreciated!
@AmyS4 I received two emails from Joseph about the Annual Scholar's Day invitation. One on Nov. 4th and the other on Nov. 8th.
@Ohm108 Thanks so much for your detailed response! That's very helpful. It's good to know that the interview will be conducted online so that I won't have to miss any classes next semester to attend the interview.
Although I really want to attend the Annual Scholar's Day, I will not be able to make it simply due to the fact that I will have a midterm on Friday morning. Maybe I should make a visit during my winter break. Again, I sincerely appreciate your help.

I have a question, please. Can anyone let me know which the best school in Connecticut I can take GEPN prerequisites with?
I never took my pre-reqs in CT but I went to my local community college in my state if that helps. I personally think community colleges are great, affordable, and allows you to fit the classes around your schedule. Are you taking pre-reqs to be better prepared for GEPN year?
Hi @valeriee11 I honestly wouldn’t put much thought into it unless you’re actually interested in attending the event. I too didn’t receive an email but then I remembered I had already registered for it through the informational session email they sent out somewhere in mid September. I plan to attend and will be happy to share with everyone what ensues. I’m specifically more interested in the learning about the research from the students. But you can surely register for it on their website if you’d like to attend.

I don't know if you know this but Yale doesn't require pre-reqs to apply but I always recommend that applicants take some STEM classes to be better prepared for the rigors of the program and have a basic science foundation to work from as you take your nursing classes.

Hi everyone,
Congratulations on submitting your applications. The waiting is actually the toughest part of the application process as some of you have mentioned on the threads. Hopefully, all of you can find some time for some self-care and rest after the marathon application period. I would highly encourage all of you to take some time to rest because you will have very little time to do so when you start your GEPN year. It easier said than done but try and rest during this time. Read a book, take a short trip, spend time with family and friends to help keep your cup full.
I would say that the portal is the best way to receive communication from the school. Both your invitation to interview and your letter of acceptance will be posted to the portal where you submitted your application.
As for the timelines, based on what has happened in previous years, you will most likely receive an invitation to interview towards mid to late December. The interviews have all moved to video conference so you do not have to fly in for the interview and they are historically around the end of January / early February. The caveat that it might be subject to change given that your deadline was extended due to technical difficulties.
Scholar's Day is a great day to come see the school and see the research that is being conducted at YSN. As I have mentioned before, previous students have come and visited the campus and sat in on classes to get a feel for the school and the program. There will also be an admitted student's day where you can formally come and visit the school once the letters of acceptance are released. You will get a chance to meet the faculty and your fellow students at that time so you can see if the school is a good fit for you and vice versa. I highly recommend that you come. We are normally given 30 days to decide whether to accept the offer and the Admitted Students Day is normally sometime in February each year.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
