Yale GEPN 2020

Published

Hi All,

I have been on the lookout for the 2020 thread but figured that I'll have to create one. I am sorry if there is one that I am not aware of.

I am a 2020 hopeful that is looking to make a career switch. I was at one of the information sessions where I gained further insights on the application process and the program. I took the GRE yesterday and was around the 50th percentile for both Q&V.

One of the changes to this years' requirements is that you don't need the GRE if you already have a masters degree or would complete one before the start of the 2020 session. I haven't taken the major prerequisites, but I will take and complete them in the summer of 2020.

I will start talking to my recommenders from next week, I have a tentative list that I composed with a view of having them tell different stories about my candidacy.

May I crave the indulgence of both current and past GEPNs and the benevolence of prospective class of 2020 to make this thread the best one yet. Your views and insights are welcome and appreciated!

Did anyone send a thank you email to their interviewer and not receive a response? Wasn't sure if this should be taken as a bad sign

Realistically, a reply to thank you emails probably has more to do with the etiquette of the interviewer and the overall number of candidates that they personally interviewed then as a sign about admission status. I certainly wouldn’t worry if a reply wasn’t sent...some of the specialties have a lot more interviewed candidates than acute care. I’m just trying to hold onto every tiny positive sign to get through this long wait!!

I did not even send a thank you email .... I am now worried about this loll

I wouldn't worry about a response specifically. They may be interviewing a lot of students and that would be a lot of responses to send out. I specifically asked a question (my interviewer encouraged me to do so if there was something I didn't get a chance to ask in the interview) so I hope I get a response, but I wouldn't have expected a response if I hadn't included a question.

I personally decided not to send one because I took the last two minutes Of my interview to really thank her and reiterate my interest. It’s all out of my hands now. I did my part now it’s down to good will and prayers lool

You’re right. It’s down to the wait game. We’ve come this far and given it our all.

I have a question about fafsa too. Do we consider GEPN year as a Master level program? and do we need to provide our parents' financial info?

Yes, the entire program from start to finish is considered a Master’s level program. You don’t have to provide your parent’s financial info after you pass a certain age but there might be certain benefits. You can read about it when you fill out your FAFSA.

So I found the YSN Financial Aid application on their site that needs to be submitted along with FAFSA but i emailed the aid office and they said this application is to be submitted after you have been admitted! Hope that helps!

You will get your financial aid package within a week of getting your acceptance letter breaking down the overall cost of attendance and the types of aid and scholarships that you will receive

Hi @ohm108 I had a question regarding Scholarships. How generous are they? Do people receive full scholarships?

Yes, Yale does provide scholarships but I don’t believe they provide full scholarships but since we don’t normally tell each other what type of financial aid that we receive, I might just not know who received a full scholarship. But your FAFSA will determine the types of need based scholarships you can receive and they do try their best to give some type of scholarship to the individuals that demonstrates the most need. Because of this, I don’t believe they give full scholarships since they are trying to give aid to as many people as possible unlike other programs. They give many partial scholarships. I know that other programs like Columbia and Vanderbilt do give a few full scholarships.

That being said, I would also suggest that you also look for outside sources of scholarships and grants to help offset your tuition costs.

Hi all,

Congratulations to everyone who did her/his interview. I sent a thank you email to my interviewer, but I didn’t receive any reply! Does it mean anything? Please let me know if you sent an email and you haven’t received any reply.

@Ohm108, I really like the flexibility that YSN affords students to take classes across specialties and Yale departments...how realistic is it to add courses on top of the standard curriculum? Is it common for GEPN/MSN students to take advantage of the opportunity to take additional classes? Would it be realistic to try to take an assessment course from a different MSN specialty and/or Spanish language classes on the main campus for example? Thank you for your insight!

I interviewed ACNP and sent a thank you email. I didn’t receive a reply either— it could be they’re busy or that their ability to respond to emails is limited outside program questions until interviews are completed, I’ve run interviews for several college programs before and rules like that are in place. Either way, I wouldn’t take it personally or as a statement about your application.
