Yale GEPN 2020

Published

Hi All,

I have been on the lookout for the 2020 thread but figured that I'll have to create one. I am sorry if there is one that I am not aware of.

I am a 2020 hopeful that is looking to make a career switch. I was at one of the information sessions where I gained further insights on the application process and the program. I took the GRE yesterday and was around the 50th percentile for both Q&V.

One of the changes to this years' requirements is that you don't need the GRE if you already have a masters degree or would complete one before the start of the 2020 session. I haven't taken the major prerequisites, but I will take and complete them in the summer of 2020.

I will start talking to my recommenders from next week, I have a tentative list that I composed with a view of having them tell different stories about my candidacy.

May I crave the indulgence of both current and past GEPNs and the benevolence of prospective class of 2020 to make this thread the best one yet. Your views and insights are welcome and appreciated!

Hi @ohm108 I had a question regarding scholarships. How generous are they? Do people receive full scholarships?

I am currently wondering about how insane the first year will be as my interviewer told me that we will have our schedule packed up for the GEPN year.

Hey all! First time posting here and catching up on the threads, wish I would have joined earlier and met you all sooner. Congratulations to all those that have, or are interviewing this week. ?

I can imagine that the first GEPN year is going to be a ride, my interviewer told me that we are in clinicals by week three, which seems insane.

I'm not sure if someone else already answered this question but I was wondering if we have to submit/complete any additional financial aid application other than FAFSA? Or do they usually send out more information about completing fafsa after they send out admission letters?

So I found the YSN Financial Aid application on their site that needs to be submitted along with FAFSA but i emailed the aid office and they said this application is to be submitted after you have been admitted! Hope that helps!

I have a question about fafsa too. Do we consider GEPN year as a Master level program? and do we need to provide our parents' financial info?

Yes, you consider it a master level program. And if you’re above a certain age, I think 25 (not sure) or if the application considers you independent then you don’t need to provide your parents financial info. If you’re dependent I think you do.

Thanks so much. I know it's a stupid question but I am still gonna ask. Will submitting fafsa impact our chances of getting into this program? or other nursing programs?

Absolutely not! Yale specifically say on their website that they admit students without regard for their ability to pay. It may however affect how much need based scholarships or grants you get. But never ever your admission decision. And that’s the same for other programs that are second degree or masters.

Thank you. That's very helpful. ?

I had my interview this morning for the CNM program and I think it went ok. I fumbled a little on articulating some of my experiences but overall I think I conveyed what brought me to this point in my career and education, what my professional goals are, what about Yale makes me think the program is a good fit, and what concerns I may have for the program. I was able to ask a few questions but I felt like we didn't have enough time to go over everything we wanted to talk about. We had 30 minutes and I think we went over by 5 or 10 minutes before we had to end.
Thanks to everyone who has shared your interview experience on here and the encouragement. I found it to be extremely helpful and I really appreciate it. Best of luck to those who interview today and tomorrow! Now we wait (I forgot to ask about when we may hear about decisions).

Congrats to everyone who has finished their interview, and good luck to those who are still taking them on!

Had my interview for acute care the other day, and I think it went okay overall. Like AmyS4, I felt like I fumbled a bit at the start in articulating my interest in Yale succinctly, but then got into the groove. My interviewer sent a nice reply to my thank you email after the interview, and I’m taking that as a positive sign. My interviewer did not have a specific timeline for releasing decisions, but did state that they hope to do so soon. Final waiting period! We’re almost there. ?
