Hi all!
I didn't see a Yale GEPN 2016 thread, so I thought it would be good to start one! Does anyone know the average GPA and GRE score for the 2015 entering class?
Congratulations to everyone who was accepted! Getting into any NP program is a huge accomplishment and I'm sure you're all going to make wonderful practitioners. Try not to get too wrapped up in nursing school rankings (if anything, note where Yale ranks in regards to your specialty field) and enjoy your last few months of relative relaxation before your first year begins!
Choosing between Yale and Vanderbilt. Does anybody know anything about why Yale's ranking has dropped so much in the past 5 years (on the US news report)? I am feeling super conflicted between the two programs! Also am waitlisted at Penn to make life harder.
Me too!! I've been vacillating between the two programs for a while now and now that I've gotten into Yale I actually have to make a decision. Vanderbilt has a shorter program and I think I'd rather live in Nashville than New Haven/Orange but I got such a good feeling about Yale and the program during interview day and the extra year may prepare me more for practice. If you have any info/factors you'd like to share that will influence your decision please do! I'm super happy and blessed to be in this position either way.
Congrats, everyone! US News and World Report changed the way they did their data sets last year--that is why Yale went down. It wasn't some earthshaking change in the way YSN does their program.
Last year I was in the happy position of picking between Vandy, Yale, and Columbia for Midwifery. I (obviously) chose Yale, but they are all ridiculously solid schools. Congratulations again! Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions I can answer.
Also, I would really encourage all of you to take some time to research (if you haven't) how they come up with the rankings and the controversies surrounding them. I got a bit caught up in it last year and took a hard look at how they do their data. You're going to be spending a ton of money on your education--go to the place that feels like it fits you.
Hi DoulaMe! I'm not able to PM you but I do have a few questions that I'd like you to answer. How did you feel about the GEPN year? Do you feel prepared to take the NCLEX? How do you feel about the quality of the education in general? The professors I met during interview day seemed amazing. Where did you find housing? Did you use loans or savings for your living expenses? Also, one of the biggest questions I have is about the extra year. Vandy is a two year program while Yale is three. Do you think the extra year will be worth it in regards to preparing you better for practice after graduation? Are there any other factors that you'd like to share that influenced your decision? Sorry for all of the questions and thank you in advance for your response. :)

What was Yale's ranking before? I'm curious to see what the rankings were in previous years....do they change a lot?
