Also, rankings should not be taken too seriously. I have friends that have gone to schools ranked higher and had terrible experiences, with some even dropping out of the program altogether and choosing to go to programs that aren't even ranked.

Where did these friends have terrible experiences if you don't mind me asking? :)

We can't post links to social media websites here (mods will take it down). Just search "Yale GEPN 2016."

Does Yale not offering a BSN make it difficult to land certain RN jobs while in the masters program? Also, does the lack of BSN have an impact on one's eligibility for any NP roles?

Congratulations to all of the admitted students!!! I am a GEPN in the PMHNP specialty. I know I had lots of questions when I was in your shoes last year, so I just wanted to drop in to say if anyone has any questions relating to the PMHNP specialty, please send me a message! Best of luck as you make your decisions :)

i think not having a BSN hurts if you want to be a floor nurse, especially if you're trying to work at a hospital that's got or is trying to get magnet status (like Yale New Haven Hospital) because they have to hire a certain percentage of BSN nurses. I don't know how you'd be able to work and do the program though and I don't know any GEPN alumns who haven't been able to get NP jobs. I'm sure YSN would be happy to put you in touch with alumns.

My above statement should read they have to have a certain number of BSN nurses working as RNs. Once you have an MSN the BSN kind of becomes moot if you want to work as an RN. ;)

Ok interesting, thanks DoulaMe! So not having a BSN wouldn't ever have an impact on one's eligibility for an NP job in a hospital that has magnet status?

Not according to the hiring person I talked to at YNHH. (As an aside there are also many former GEPNs working there.)

And every single alumn I have talked to has said it's a non-issue for them. Now, is YSN going to put me in touch with the disgruntled alumn? Is that alumn going to be involved with the school to mentor? Probably not. However there is a REALLY high amount of alumni activity at YSN. To the point we have individual mentors if we want them.
