Yale GEPN Applicants 2012

Published

There didn't seem to be a main thread for applicants to Yale's GEPN program this year, so I thought I'd get one started. I'm applying for the midwifery specialty and am currently working on my application essays, having done everything else.

Is anyone else really struggling with the main essay? I've finished my apps to two other programs and was happy with how those essays came out, but Yale's essay guidelines as so restrictive that I feel like my essay is turning out all disjointed. The fact that we have to answer every aspect of every question in *exactly the order they list* (this is apparently something that you need to take very seriously) means that I'm having to tie myself in knots. I want it to be not only informative about me as an applicant but also a good piece of writing - and I feel like the essay format is making this kind of difficult.

Anyone else out there applying?

oh boy...another day has started is right! I am so ready to know! I am so fully of passion and excitement for this point in my life...it's time for things to start happening! :)

I will be on the look out for that "pre-email"...no matter how badly I want it to be the interview invitation ;)

it's an exciting time for sure. I'm working to keep myself super busy at work - but continue to check my email like a giddy highschool girl in love!!

what specialty did you apply to?

k.

yeah except this time we are giddy high school girls in love with what we want to do with our lives! :) I love it!

I applied to the CNM specialty. I've wanted to deliver babies since the age of 9 or 10 and it hasn't wavered since, so I know this is what I'm meant to do :)

What about you?

i applied to the acute care track - maybe a little different than others who have applied to GEPN, my goal is to continue working in the acute care setting and help with the transition of care to the community. currently i work in care management as a transition coordinator so i know the process well! i want the medical background so i can be more involved with the patients care as well as research.

too late in the day for anything in our emails - tomorrow is just one day closer!

Despite having applied to college and grad school before, I don't think I've ever been so wound up. This wait is just excruciating.

I feel you! So much for sleeping...ever! BLAH!

I'm up - going for a run...too early for a drink!

I can tell we'd all get along great!

maybe today is the day!!

Hi all,

I hope I'm noir ruining anything for anyone but friday is the day... There may be a letter sent out later today to let people know to look for it. Thanks, and gl to all. Just curious what is the stats for everyone applying for midwifery?

Pax,

Kerry

thanks for the info! It's nice to know when we'll hear. did you call the admissions office?

I think it's really nice of them to send out an email first to tell us what to look for. Though it doesn't help with the anxiety!

Yes, I called the director and she said she was crafting a draft to let people to know. Im so nervous. I feel like my undergrad is strong and I'm a doula and IBCLC and I'm taking this yr and getting my masters in bioethics but I know the competition is so stiff. Ugggg. Fun fact for us almost midwives, (as I'm sure most know) most c sections are preformed on Fridays. I'm offering up the day for all women who are faced with an unnecessary caesarean on Friday. If I get in I'll be rejoicing in being able to combat it, if not I'll offer up my sorrows for those mamas. Do any of you know the poem at the start of Varney's Holy Births and Howling Babies? I consider it a midwife's prayer. I can copy and paste for anyone interested.

Pax,

Kerry

Oh, I love that poem!

I pray for all my babies, Be good to your mama.

I pray for all my mothers, Be strong, be good to this baby.

I pray secretly and I pray slowly.

I pray for us, the midwives and almost-midwives...

Good luck, Kerry! I hope we get to be almost-midwives soon!

Just got the email from the director.
