Yale GEPN Applicants 2012

Published

There didn't seem to be a main thread for applicants to Yale's GEPN program this year, so I thought I'd get one started. I'm applying for the midwifery specialty and am currently working on my application essays, having done everything else.

Is anyone else really struggling with the main essay? I've finished my apps to two other programs and was happy with how those essays came out, but Yale's essay guidelines as so restrictive that I feel like my essay is turning out all disjointed. The fact that we have to answer every aspect of every question in *exactly the order they list* (this is apparently something that you need to take very seriously) means that I'm having to tie myself in knots. I want it to be not only informative about me as an applicant but also a good piece of writing - and I feel like the essay format is making this kind of difficult.

Anyone else out there applying?

I applied for PNP. Echoing Category X to say thank you for emailing on our behalf!

I originally applied to AGNP but had to switch to Oncology since my program was cancelled. Thanks so much simplekategirl and laflaca for emailing the office. This wait is far worse than the wait for my college and grad school admissions letters!

I also applied for CNM! Haven't been posting much but I read the board all the time for updates. :)

The waiting is killing me too, I have started to have weird dreams about my gmail inbox (?) but it's really nice

To know that I'm not alone. Good luck to all!!

well this starts our big week of waiting! I nervously excited. I'm hoping today! That way we don't have to wait all week.

how is everybody holding up? I've been running every day just to clear my head and make sure my anxiety level stay down. It's my only coping skill that works!

I've been calming my nerves at bedtime with a few frosty beverages.

Haha, well done! I'm thinking we're not going to hear for a couple days, so go easy. :)

oooh oooh! I'm trying your technique tonight! for sure!

hey chula! i just saw your post about your specialty choice. was it a difficult change of specialty for you? i was also AGNP to start and had to think hard about where i would fit best with the given choices. i ended up acute care. i wonder how many AGNP'ers there were to start...?!

Keep in mind that just because students are off, that doesn't mean the staff is breaking yet. According to their website, official recess days are Dec 23, 27, 28, 29, and 30. So I'm gonna bet we won't hear until closer to the 23rd. It might be best not to drink yourself to sleep every night until then. Lol.

good thoughts - though I hope you're wrong so we aren't waiting!! anyone have an inside GEPN student connection?

@simplekategirl: No, the switch wasn't difficult for me. I've applied for the Oncology subspecialty at Columbia. It's a definite interest of mine, so I didn't agonize over the change too much. It was just a tiny bit disappointing, that's all.

I would doubt that Yale deems "university break" as when the staff is on break, since the staff don't get a traditional two/three week recess. Also, for the past few years, they've tended to notify interviewees this very week. I guess it remains to be seen. I will continue my moderate nocturnal libations until I hear!

another day has started - I'm remembering that in the reply email from admissions last week, it was stated that they will try to send out a "pre-email" alerting us that the interview invites are coming. so watch for that first!

the days are numbered at this point- no doubt we will

know within the week!
