Yale GEPN Applicants 2011

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

It didn't look like there was a thread for 2011 Yale GEPN applicants. Since the application recently opened, I thought I'd start a thread to see if anyone else is starting to work on their application.

Anyone else out there?

Jan. 21st interviews, just an fyi that New Haven is a disgusting, slushy mess right now from the two snow storms that came through last week. There is about a foot of snow/ice still on the ground, though the rest of the snow has melted away into a greyish black muck. Bring water/snow/muck worthy shoes to "commute" in and carry your dress shoes in a bag to change into once on campus. Also, if you need to call a cab while in town the easiest number to remember is (203) 777-7777, if you need a cab that accepts credit cards tell them when you call. Good luck everyone!

What to do while in town? Yale has a fabulous art museum, and it bosts free admission! Chapel St. and downtown have great little shops to browse through. Good restaurants: Barcelona tapas, trendy (Temple St.) and Claire's Corner Copia Vegetarian &/or breakfast (Chapel St.) are good suggestions for downtown hotel areas. New Haven is big on apizza, thin crust pizza. Some of the major pizza-players are Peppi's, Sally's, and Modern.

hey! are your parents/a parent/family member/someone coming to the orientation day with you?

No I am driving myself because I don't live that far away. I'm sure there will be somewhere your parents can wait. There are a lot of booths and things in the cafe of the nursing school where they could wait. I would not worry about it!

Well, interview is done. Now just waiting for the (hopefully thick!) envelope in the mail with our fate! Good luck everyone!

Average GRE breakdown of Yale GEPN students is:

Verbal - 580

Quantitative - 630

Analytical Writing - 5.0

Average GPA is 3.47 and minimum GPA is 3.2

My Verbal and Quantitative scores are completely inverted from that (just took practice tests so far)

Congratulations on completing your interview! Would you mind commenting on the day? At what time did everything end?

The day was interesting, started off with a welcome and overview of the GEPN program. Then they went over financial aid and how they estimate the required costs for each year (~$170k for the whole program, all inclusive)! They broke us into specialty and went over the course of study for the 2 specialty years and we had lunch in the same groups and spoke to some of the professors (and interviewers!) for that specialty. There was also a student Q&A and info about New Haven. Everyone's interviews were spread out throughout the day, the earliest I knew of was 10am and the latest was 2:30pm. The interviews are 30 minutes and the structured portion of the day was done at 2ish. My interview was at 2, so I was out the door by 2:30.

When is your interview?

Thanks for the information! My interview is this coming Friday; I am flying in on Thursday. I knew the program was expensive, but my heart skipped a beat at the $170K. Yikes. Still really forward to the day though.

When is your interview?

Thanks for all of the information! My interview is Thursday, so I am getting excited! Of course, one of the things I want to know - what did everyone wear? Suits? Or more casual?

@Rainbow - I wore a suit, as did a majority of the people there. But both of the men I saw wore dress pants, sweater and a tie and alot of the women wore dresses, or nice pants outfits. I got the impression that a suit wasn't going to make or break the interview. None of the interviewers I saw were dressed that formally. Bottom line - dress nice, I probably would have worn a nice top and dress pants if I were to do it again!

Good luck with your interviews! The day REALLY made me want to go there...so hopefully we'll all have that opportunity!

I hate to ask -- but who's started on the financial aid application process? I'm confused by that question on the FAFSA that asks whether you would like to discuss your current assets... it seems like saying 'yes' if you have any money will mean you'll get less money, whereas saying 'yes' if you don't have any money will help you get more money. Any ideas? That deadline is looming and I'm traveling all weekend for another interview...

Hey Partera -- My thinking is that it may just be best to disclose what you know. If something is unclear FAFSA will come back to you and have you verify certain things after the fact (I think -- best to check up on this), so it might come up later if you dont disclose certain assets right away.

Looks like Connecticut has been hit by a big old snow storm and I am sitting here in Chicago, when I should have been on the east coast three hours ago. Guess I'm doing a phone interview now!!

Almost every flight going into Bradley Airport this afternoon was canceled, so I'm probably not alone. Anyone else have their travel plans foiled by the weather?
