It didn't look like there was a thread for 2011 Yale GEPN applicants. Since the application recently opened, I thought I'd start a thread to see if anyone else is starting to work on their application.
Anyone else out there?

I'm planning to apply for the fall 2011 year as well! =]
How are things going with your application? I'm also applying to UCSF & OHSU so I'm frantically studying to take the GRE on Monday so I have it done in time (hopefully) for UCSF.
I'm applying in the midwifery specialty (probably obvious from my name). I've heard from many people that it can be a multi-year process to get in for that specialty, so I'm trying to stay relaxed about the whole thing.
I'm still in the verry beginning stages of gathering all my materials, so far I'm working on asking professors and employers for letters of recommendation -- my biggest problem is that I don't have direct experience with the healthcare field (ie: haven't volunteered at a hospital since highschool) but I have worked in a preschool and am interested in pediatrics.
GOOD LUCK WITH THE GRE! I just took mine this past Friday and I'm waiting back on my writing score.
I'm still iffy about whether to apply for UCSF or not but I'm planning to apply to Columbia and Boston College as well.

I too am applying to the Yale GEPN 2011! My specialty is Peds and pretty much I have my application materials all submitted except finishing that pesky essay to make sure it conforms to their standards...:)
Amalay: we will have to keep in touch as I am considering the same programs (lol) BC and Columbia in addition to Yale

I'm planning to apply to Yale, but I haven't started on the application yet. I just got done with the UCSF app. I'm applying to many other schools in the hopes that I get in somewhere for ACNP. Thanks for starting this thread! I recognize some fellow UCSF applicants here :)

Hello all!
I am applying for the 2011 year too. I am applying to the Midwifery program as well. I think I have pretty much done all I can for this essay. I am now waiting on one more transcript as well as receipt of my recommendations back. This is the weirdest process I have ever been through (meaning, the one packet application process as well as the, "2 professional/1 academic" references!)
I am also applying to other Ohio State, Univ of Cinci, Marquette, and Capital Univ in Ohio (for a second bachelor's)...quite a bit different from everyone else so far!

Does anyone (prospective or past GEPN'r) know what kind of postgrad debtload most people end up with? And, possibly more importantly -- can you work as an RN during your 2 years of specialty, and if so how available are these jobs? I'm applying for midwifery but already pretty worried about the price...

I am also applying to Yale! I've already given my recommenders their forms and sent GREs, just need to start the actual application, lol. It seems rather simple since you don't have to enter all the prereq stuff. When I first opened my application, I received an email from one of the coordinators welcoming me to the application process, attaching the recommendation forms and instructions, and informing me that FNP is their most impacted specialty, but wishing me luck nonetheless. I am sure it is a stock email, but I thought it was a nice touch. No other school I have opened an app with has sent such an email.
I am from California so the idea of moving to all the way to Connecticut and dealing with real winters is slightly overwhelming, but I know this is what I want and am willing to move where I have to.

I am also in the process of applying for next year's cohort. The UCSF MEPN 2011 thread was so encouraging and helpful for the application process and I am hoping that this thread can be similar. I am applying to seven accelerated masters programs for nurse-midwifery and know that it is very possible to not get into any of them ! I have been wondering how much experience in the field other midwifery or GEPN applicants have - I have very little. Good luck to everyone!

I'm working on my application as well! Unfortunately I have to re-take the GRE's because my scores expired in April, wish me luck!
I have a question for everyone about the essay...I really have little to no research experience. Is anyone in this situation? I've taken a research methods class and that is about it, so I guess that is all I will write...is anyone else's essay "light" in this area?

Hi All,
I'm a current GEPN student here at Yale. I'm in the nurse-midwifery track, class of 2013. I can try to answer a few questions as they come up in the process. I'll try and check this website to see if there are any specific questions that pop up. The application process can be daunting, but is entirely achievable. Best of luck to all.
