Hi everyone,
I am hoping to apply for spring 2017. They only require your transcripts, SAT/ACT score. From looking at other threads, experience matters like a CNA certification. How would they know about that if they dont require a resume. I just spoke to someone from admission and she said not to send anything extra. Can someone shed some light on this for me please?

Hey SophNursing,
I was curious about that as well, because I'm a CNA but how will they know if we aren't allowed to send extra documents? Does anyone know how they decide on who will be offered a spot in the program?

I'm in the current ABSN class. As far as I know, I only submitted high school, college and pre-req transcripts. I would say most of us aren't CNA's so that didn't matter too much. I went to admissions before applying and asked if I needed to be one and they said no. I think everyone in our class had their pre-reqs finished by the time we applied.
As for me, I graduated from UNC in 2011 as an American History major with a 3.0 GPA. I got all A's in my pre-reqs at Forsyth Tech and was accepted right off the bat. We found out in mid-October. Do ya'll have any questions for me?
Hey amwinslow,
Thanks for the reply. Can you give an estimate of the cost of the program? Looking at WSSU website, there is a document but it includes cost of living at home versus campus room and board. Also, where does the program have the students do clinical work? At Baptist medical center? How often are classes, clinicals, etc? Thanks!
The estimated cost per the school for an in-state student is $14,300. This doesn't include cost of living as far as I know. I don't think anyone in my cohort lives on campus. You will do clinicals at several locations-- mainly Baptist and Forsyth. I'm in Peds now and we're at Baptist, Horizons (a school for children with neurological deficits), and a mobile clinic. For the spring, you'll essentially have classes Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8-4:30. At some point you'll add in clinicals which will either be Thursday/Friday, or Saturday/Sunday (6:30am-6:30pm for both). The summer is BY FAR the worst/hardest part of the whole program. Several of us were able to keep working throughout the program depending on the flexibility of your job. In this program you'll have to learn to be VERY flexible because things are usually quite disorganized. I've found that I've mostly taught myself the information that I'm supposed to learn and I'm doing pretty well as of right now. Any other questions?
Thank you so much for the info you've provided! I just sent off my application this morning, so now I'm waiting until October. I'm just about to start a PRN job as a CNA and it should be pretty flexible to work that around classes and clinical. Good luck with the remainder of the program!

I am from out of state but just curious, it says online WSSU is historically a black university. Does anyone know if it will lower your chances of getting in if you are not african american?

No absolutely not!! I am an alumnae from WSSU and they do not discriminate. HBCU's were created (back in the day) as way to ensure that blacks were educated, since most of us (blacks) during those times were shunned or not accepted to predominantly white universities. During my time at WSSU we had a lot of students of different ethnicities/races.

Thank you for the feedback @amwinslow
You mentioned that you sent in your HS transcripts? But the website asked for our SAT scores. Can we choose to send in either one? Because I'm currently waiting for the collegeboard to locate my SAT scores from 2002. And they said it might take from 4 to 6 weeks. And I've been trying to get in touch with a person in the ABSN program to ask if I could send in my HS transcripts instead of the SAT scores.
Hi @KunmiT,
I'm not sure how in depth your transcripts from high school are, but mine had my SAT scores and my immunizations on the last two pages, so I just sent those. Do you have your transcript on hand to check it out? Maybe you can request your HS transcript with the needed SAT scores with it? I'm in Forsyth county, NC so if you are in the same county hopefully that will work.
Thanks for the feedback. I call my HS and they don't have any records of my SAT or my transcripts on file. I have to go through the wake County school system and I don't know if they will have it either. I guess it doesn't hurt to try them.
I mailed in my application on Monday with everything but my SAT scores I'm hoping I can get that situated soon.

Hi amwinslow,
Thank you for taking the time to answer questions! I got my application in the mail last week and included everything that was on the check list (application/college transcripts/sat score). I did not see immunizations on the check list. Is that something that you can provide if accepted? Traditionally, if admissions needs additional info will they reach out to you or will you just not be accepted?
Thanks again!
