WSSU ABSN 2014

U.S.A. North Carolina

Anyone applying for the ABSN program at Winston-Salem State University this year? Just wondering if there were others out there who would be in the same boat.

Has anyone heard of funding this year?

Does anyone know how they rank applicants?

Thanks and Good Luck to all!

...as of right now I will not be getting an interview with Baptist. I truly was planning on getting funding from them and was super stoked because I had already planned on staying in Winston after graduation.

Hoping for the RWJF scholarship now! That will be my saving grace!!!

Our spring 2013 semester, are tuition and fees and books cost $3182. Summer 2013 cost $1931. Fall 2013 cost $3422. At least that is what Baptist paid for us. That included books, tuition, fees, and insurance. If the cost of attendance goes up this next year of course that may change. May not be perfect but it will an idea of cost. Of course rent and whatnot is more.

Sorry. I think the insurance once you are in clinical is around $25. Uniforms cost about $120.

Has anyone had their interview with Baptist yet for funding? If so, how did it go?!

Does anyone know the breakdown? The one given to me on Banner Rams for the Spring Semester 2014 is as follows:

Does that seem about right? At least along the books, tuition, insurance, and miscellaneous? For some reason, the way that we enter into the program, it is as if we were undergraduate freshman (at least according to the loan amounts).

The $9214 is the most that the University will give you for the semester for financial aid. As far as thetuition and fees charged each semester, I listed ours for this year above.I'm not sure how much the books cost because I did not have to buy mine, but you probably would be better off buying the previous edition of everything on Amazon or something of that sort. And plus that way they will be a little cheaper then the brand new ones in the bookstore.

Thank you ErinJane1 you have been so helpful by listing tuition costs! That makes me feel a lot better. I just hope Baptist doesn't have a discount tuition rate through WSSU so those of us that are not funded can expect around the same cost. Do you know if Baptist hires ABSN students even if they were not funded?

Yes they will hire even without being funded. Chances are if you are not funded, most clinicals will be at Forsyth Hospital. But just do well and work hard and you will get a job pretty easily I think.

Definitely buy the previous edition! It has not hurt me at all! And use your ATI books to study too (once you get them), I wish I had learned this earlier on. I'm a bargain hunter so I borrowed books from an N11 and bought her uniform for $50. And get a part-time job now! I know they say you "can't work" in the program but I've been working since day 1 and haven't stopped yet. I do plan to stop mid-January to focus on preceptorship but will be able to pick right back up when we're done in February since we can't take the NCLEX until March. Erin's estimates are right for tuition. I wasn't able to get financial aid for the summer and had to pay the $1900 out of pocket which made me very glad to be working. It's been rough, but it's doable! Learn to budget now!

That's great news! I was hoping we could buy previous editions, that will save us tons of money. And that's a great idea to buy a used uniform, I think that's what I will try to do. Ddwillard, since you have been through clinicals which area hospital do you prefer? Do you plan on applying to the hospitals in this area or moving? Thanks for the info :nurse:

I actually live in Mocksville so I got a scholarship from Iredell Memorial. It was $1300/semester and I have to work for them for 1 year to pay it back. I prefer parking at Forsyth but Baptist has a better system because it's computerized! Forsyth still uses some paper records but I think that's going to change soon.

Hey guys ... I am a little slow ... 49 years old here and back in school. I do not have a BS degree so I am going the long route of the total 4 years. I have a year finished with 30 credits already. I am at WSSU and I have some pre reqs. to do before I can apply to the upper division in spring of 2015. Good Lord I am going to be old when I get out. Do any of you know how difficult it is to get into the upper division? My GPA will be around the 3.5+ and I will have all my core work done by then.
