  1. Yes they will hire even without being funded. Chances are if you are not funded, most clinicals will be at Forsyth Hospital. But just do well and work hard and you will get a job pretty easily I think.
  2. The $9214 is the most that the University will give you for the semester for financial aid. As far as thetuition and fees charged each semester, I listed ours for this year above.I'm not sure how much the books cost because I did not have to buy mine, but you probably would be better off buying the previous edition of everything on Amazon or something of that sort. And plus that way they will be a little cheaper then the brand new ones in the bookstore.
  3. Sorry. I think the insurance once you are in clinical is around $25. Uniforms cost about $120.
  4. Our spring 2013 semester, are tuition and fees and books cost $3182. Summer 2013 cost $1931. Fall 2013 cost $3422. At least that is what Baptist paid for us. That included books, tuition, fees, and insurance. If the cost of attendance goes up this next year of course that may change. May not be perfect but it will an idea of cost. Of course rent and whatnot is more.
  5. We were contacted from Baptist shortly after hearing about getting in. But we were also told that our year was the last to get funded, unless they worked something out at the last minute. The FaceBook group is good. We use it to talk and share information and it has been great to stay up to date on everything going on in the program. If you guys have questions or need anything, just email me on here and I will help out!
  6. You will need a flu shot. If you have insurance, you can go to just about any pharmacy and get a shot. Make sure you make copies OF EVERYTHING!!! All your shot records and any other paperwork you turn in. Chances are, they will misplace it and you will have to get another copy. 2 TB tests are not that big of a deal. The quantiferon test is a quick easy fix, but it is sometimes not as easy as you think. I had it done twice and both times it came back "indeterminate." So I had to go and do the 2 tests. The Baptist interview is very basic and easy. I am funded so it has been very nice. Like one of my classmates said, the lady is super sweet and asks you general questions about work history and scenarios and how you would handle it. You do have to play it a little maybe, by saying you want to stay in Winston Salem. Do not say you want to move back to Charlotte or where ever if you want to funding. The Robert Wood Johnson Scholarship is good but you also have to go to some other meetings and PR type of things. Good luck to you all. You have to stick together in this program. You may meet each other at orientation and think "What do I have in common with these people" or "She gets on my nerves." But be ready, these people will become your friends and family for this time. Your friends outside of school are going to have issues with you being "flaky" or not hanging out and you need to prepare them up front. And be prepared to lose some friends. You really spend all your time with your classmates because of the schedule. You will be forced to get along and as long as you help and encourage each other, you will do fine. PS - ATI is a BIG help. And do not take them lightly. The better you do on ATI the better you should do on the NCLEX. Baptist pays for it if you end up getting funded.
  7. I went to WSSU for undergrad too. This is completely different set of problems! I am funded by Baptist so they paid all books and fees. But I got undergrad loans as well. And that was where trouble happened. They gave me a scholarship and then took it back. Then they keep changing my financial aid. And now they are not allowing us to get Spring financial aid for 2014, which means we do not get college health insurance or anything either. It is just a big mess! We are done February 14th with classes. But we have a "required" review course for the NCLEX, to the cost of $350 that we have to return for and will finish at the end of February. So we are counting down and so ready to get it done!
  8. I am currently in the program now. You need to prepare for emotionally and financially draining 14 to 16 months.you will not get financial aid in the last spring semester. You will be fighting with financial aid most of the time when being a student at WSSU. Things change at the drop of a dime. And you will have stress from classes and from administration. Good luck and be ready.
  9. I am also in the problem right now. Although the classes are tough and most of the instructors are nice, the university is a pain to deal with. It seems like every time we turn around something with financial aid or something messes up. So, make sure you are fully prepared to deal with the stress of the program and all the crap from the school. Lots of stress so if you freak out easily, make sure you have a back up school.
  10. The ABSN only accepts students for starting in January of each year. Again, if you are looking at getting into the traditional 2 year program, that is just the BSN applicants you need to talk to. The ABSN is the 13 months course study that accepts students around October of each year to start in January. The numbers I heard of for this years ABSN program was somewhere around 500 applicants and I would imagine something like 60 accepted.
  11. I turned down my acceptance late yesterday. So hopefully some of you out there that did not get in or got waitlisted will be getting contacted soon. Good luck to everyone in your program.
  12. For the ABSN program, you need to have a degree first. I got into the ABSN program that starts in January. I have a bachelors degree in clinical lab science, a GPA of 3.6, But a low SAT score. But I had all the minimum. I also had all the prerequisite classes done. But if you are a junior trying to get into The traditional program I have no clue what you need to have. The ABSN program just need some good grades and a good GPA and a previous bachelors degree.
  13. I got in also! But i also got in at WSSU accelerated so not sure which way I am going yet. Congrats all!
  14. I live right outside of Winston Salem. Just got the packet today. Never got an email or anything. Congrats to you guys getting in!
  15. I just got my acceptance packet today!!
