Wow....need some input Please!!

Your not meant to know everything before class. You learn in class so that you understand it at the end. This is just another step in becoming a nurse. Take a deep breath and think positive. You need to learn a new language and once you do it will seem less intimidating.

The pre-reqs really arent so bad. Don't let some silly science classes get in the way of pursuing nursing. The go by really quick and there is always tutoring available. Theres also PLENTY of rewiew books and "For Dummies" books available in Barnes & Noble for Anatomy & Phys as well as Micro.

I'd also like to add that before starting A&P I had no knowledge of science at all! As long as do the assigned readings and look at your notes a few times a week you'll breeze by. PROMISE!

You'll do fine!

I was working full time and raising a child alone when I did A&P 1 & 2. And I got an A and a B.

It's lots of work but doable.

Of course it looks intimidating because you don' know that stuff yet. Trust me, when you start taking the classes, you will think to yourself, "Ohhhh, I get it!". Right now I'm takin General chem, General Bio and Anatomy...General chemistry is math...that's it's, some memorization but a lot of math....Anatomy is a lot of memorization, but you learn so much...this is coming from someone who is so not science savy...Good luck and take care, and definitely take a deep breath...

I am looking at the books for the Chem and Anat class work required to get into nursing school and i must admit....it looks intimidating (sigh).

I have a degree in business...and i am a bit older (47yr, m), but the chemistry and Anatomy look a little like Greek to me.

Am i being "parnoid" or....can i get through it?

I need "a" & "b"s to get into my schools ARN program.

I don't know....but lol,...it looks dauting?(sigh).

Can someone give their "positive" input on this...

As long as you show up for every class, do your assignments, and study then you will be fine. Actually I found the science classes to be the most interesting part of my pre req education. I loved learning how the body was put together and worked. It's truly amazing!

A lot of this sort of learning is simple memorization so find a system that works for you. Personally I used the flash card system -- I'd right the question on one side and the answer on the other. And I would just go over and over it till I had it down.

My hubby did it, in his mid 40's, and he was a non science type - his first degree is in history. He was top in his class, because he was interested, committed, and he has a support of wife (me) to listen to him complain about nursing care plans! But I am getting a head of myself. Just worry about the pre reqs first Tony. I think you will be pleasantly surprised how well you will do once you are in class. Remember they break it down to bite sizes pieces, you won't have to know it all in one class.

What do you expect from the classes?

They aren't easy but the instructors will (usually) make things a little easier than if you were learning on your own.

There is a lot of new vocab.

There is a lot of new information.

These are things to expect.

Don't worry so much. It's just a few science classes. Take them, study the material, pass the class (with the grade you want), and then go on to the next class.

You will be able to do it.

Let me give you some input from the teacher's perspective...use them! Your instructors are there to help you to learn and they want to see you succede! Find ways that work for you to deal with your stress and test anxiety so that you can concentrate and if you have trouble don't wait until the end of the semester to seek help. Don't expect it to be something that cannot be done- there are thousands of nurses in America right now who have done it (even at 47! I had a student that was 62 and had "always wanted to be a nurse" and went to school after her husband died and she passed!) and though it is true that not everyone can do it (I will never be an astronaught and that's okay too) a good program will not allow unqualified applicants to enter.
