Wow the doors are all closing, when will one open?

 Hello everyone,

I really need some advise. In the last 5mos my life has taken a drastic turn. It all started when I resigned from a very stressful job. I decided to find employment that was more enjoyable. When I left I felt confident that I would find employment. During that time I applied for advance education. I spent the time off to prepare to start school and further my careers. All was well. I felt really good. Then as the months pasted by no employment. Interviews after interviews no employment. This is strange did have problems in the past. In anyway kept positive things will turn around. Then I received notice that I didn't get into any of the advance education program in which I applied. Wow what a kick in the face. It took me the whole weekend I am still not over the shock.

Now I am at a loss for words what is going on? So I have reached out to my previous employer to get my old job back. Wow it's tough out here. You always hear about people doing what they love, having job satisfaction. I have learned a valuable lession be great you have a job, life is tough it's not about getting what you want it's about paying your bills and hoping you survive in the process. Not quite sure if I'll get my old job back but what was I thinking too many positive thinking books. This was a real reality check. Thanks for reading. I wish you all the best. To those of you that truly enjoy your job thats a real blessing. Take care you'all.:crying2:

No advice for you but you're in my thoughts. Praying for the right door to open for you soon.

At this point I would not leave my job without having another immediately in hand, and even then it would have to be a very secure one (as well as I could determine) - for a lot more cash, which isn't likely in this economy.

Unfortunately a positive attitude alone will not be enough to rectify your situation.

If you are up for a little constructive criticism - I noticed in your post that there are several incorrect words. If this comes across in your applications and resume, it might be holding you back. Employers often eliminate applicants because of an apparent lack of attention to detail. I do quite a few employment interviews, and I look very carefully at the way the application and resume are constructed and worded, and whether they contain obvious errors. These documents are essentially sales brochures. You want to make the best possible impression, because the market is tight and applicant pools are larger and more talented and experienced. The difference between the person who is hired and one who is not can sometimes be very slight. If you are not skilled in writing and editing, ask a friend who is to look over what you have written and offer suggestions.

There is a reason for the loss of words. Its simple 4 years ago you were found wanted, desired, and needed. Welcome to the circle of life in economics! Don't give up and most of all a positive attitude is going to get you more places than you would expect (took me 4 years to change my self!)

Being positive will help the way you look at your situation and yes there is opportunity in going back to school, joining the military, and other options (traveling RN, PD) that you might not have thought about. Don't doubt a positive attitude, but also don't forget the lesson your going through right now as well!

I lost my job 2 years ago, but because I basically had gone through it before I had saved up what I thought was 6 months of income and have stretched it out nearly into a 2 year sabbatical with trips all over the west coast every few months. Now when I find another position in the future I won't just be ready for it I'll be living above my means since I have lived way below it and actually find enjoyment in it.

ABOVE ALL DON'T GET NEGATIVE all that leads to is depression and boredom.

I know its hard to be positive considering your situation but all I can say is ENDURE. Its ok to feel down right now but the reality is feeling down won't get you to where you want to be, just endure through the trials and tribulations and that door will fly open soon enough and you'll appreciate where you are. You will most definitely be in my thoughts and prayers because I can only imagine what you're going through.

I pray you have strength, endurance and happiness.

Hello everyone,

thanks for all the positive feedback. I will continue to be positive. The opportunity to vent was excellent. I think it's imperative not to provide advise related to grammar, as in order to get this far academically one requires good grammar. When writing in frustration we ignore grammar, as we are writing freely. Thanks for the advise but grammar is not a concern.:yeah:

I'm sorry you have had to go through such a tough time. But it sounds as if you have learned some valuable lessons about life that may help you in the future.

I worry sometimes that our culture sends out too many messages to our young people -- essentially telling them that "everything will be OK and you will always get what you want if you just stay positive." That's not true. Sometimes, life is hard and bad things do happen to good people. Sometimes there are forces outside of our control -- and with we have to live with some bad things even though we don't like them. For example, sometimes we need to keep working at a job we don't like for a while -- at least until we have actually secured another job to provide the income we need.

I wish you the best of luck in the future.

Destiny12,

I will start off with a Congratulations on leaving that very stressful job, as we know: stress and heart disease are number 1 killers in female (I'm guessing that you are female). Now with regards to having these doors closed to you, how long have you been looking? I was in a very similar situation in which I left a job without having another to move forward to. I thought being a nurse, I would get job the very next week, (my husband and I bought a multi-family house, new car and not to mention the bills that come along with owning a new home). I also had some static at work in which my boss took my two weeks notice personal and then fired me a few days after (whatever..lol) Anywho, I was getting frustrated after two weeks of flooding my resume and using other professional networks - and nothing. Then after two weeks, the interview calls came flooding in, and I ended up with 3 job offers, all of which was my choosing and I didn't have to settle.

I know you have done so already, but don't go back to asking for your old job back. I am POSITIVE you will find something or hear from others very soon. Have you really flooded the market with your resumes? Tried head hunters? Or even this web site on their job board? My advice to you is: keep positive and really search and submit your resume through all avenues. PM if you need some web sites.... best of luck, you will be just fine.

This too shall pass and will only make you wiser and stronger. :yeah: :nurse:

wow thank-you sooooooooooooo very much for all your encouragement. Words cannot express how greatful I am to everyone for all your positive comments. I feel more free and happy. Will keep you. I really believe things are going to change for the better. Once again thank-you. As for the most recent comment thank-you, you have helped me to remain focus. Yes we can really do what we love.

"Thanks for the advise but grammar is not a concern"

I understand that you want to believe that grammar/spelling/punctuation and general writing principles are not a concern. You should probably consider that you are most likely incorrect.

In this time of many many nurses for every open position (which is, of course, the point of this thread), a manager must somehow wade through the applications and resumes that land on his/her desk. When I am faced with multiple applications for 1 open position, the very first thing I will do is set aside those applications and resumes that contain grammatical, punctuation and spelling errors. Those are the immediate discards. There must be a way to thin the applicant field, and this is the very first step. I want to hire a nurse who can communicate and who takes the time to express herself correctly.

And lest you think that I'm just one opinion, let me assure you that I speak for every manager/administrator that I have ever worked for or with.

p.s. And for what it's worth, the reference to the possibility of checking your grammar/spelling/punctuation was (in my humble opinion) worded very kindly and gently.

The intentions were to note that grammar when posting may not be relevant. Of course when sending resumes grammar is a must. Any resumes that are sent out are professionally done. The reason for the post was not to discuss grammar. I really appreciate all the feedback. Thanks.
