Would YOU pay $38,000 for RN school?

There is a private college that offers the LVN to RN programs that I have had my eye on. It would take about 8 months to get my RN after the few remaining pre-requisites are finished. Would you pay $38 - 40,000 to have your RN? I am wondering if going the faster more convinent private route will be better than waiting years to get into one of the jr colleges here. Thoughts?

I guess it is different for different areas because unlike in sassiebaz's area RNs do not make twice as much as LPNs here.

Here in New York, RNs make twice as much, usually than LPNs. It still amazes me how I keep reading that some of the other states may be a difference of a few dollars.

Bigb, are you talking about Western Career College? If so I got into their program and I was suppose to start this past January. I had all my prereqs finished by SSC. Western Career College told me the price went up to 34,000 from 25,000. I refused to pay that price. I applied at SSC and will be starting the Lvn to Rn transitional program June 5, 2007. I just didn't want to work my but off for a year to pay back 34,000 just for an AA degree. Going to a community college I receive grants and that covers the cost of the program for me.

Western Career College told me the price went up to 34,000 from 25,000. I refused to pay that price. I applied at SSC and will be starting the Lvn to Rn transitional program June 5, 2007. I just didn't want to work my but off for a year to pay back 34,000 just for an AA degree. Going to a community college I receive grants and that covers the cost of the program for me.

Yeah, I just went onto some junior college websites in cali. and noticed that first of all, they seemed to have restructured the pre-req's. I didn't see Chemistry or college algebra anylonger. For the LPN-RN bridge it looks like 2 semesters....wow! I could handle that. I guess there probably is a waiting list but the cost was under $3K......I dunno, I may just go that route!!!

NO. I was accepted into 2 LPN to ADN bridge programs and neither of them cost more than $4,000. One was for 10 months and the one I accepted is 9 months. In my area the programs are there you just have to have really good grades and be willing to jump through the pre-req hoops.

Unfortunatly in california you have hundreds of people applying for about 50 RN program postions at the schools. They all are lottery based admission systems. With my luck I wouldn't get in for 4 years LOL.

And RN here make about $5 - 10 dollars more an hour than I do as an LVN.

Yes I am talking about WCC! I am scared to think what the tuition will be next year. I think CSU - Sacramento will be my best bet. They only have 2 prerequisites (micor, and pysio) and I wouldn't need the other general eds I would for a jr. college.

Technically they don't list elementry algebra or intro chemistry, but elementry algebra is a prerequisite for chemistry, which is a prerequisite for micro or psysio. unless you take A dnd P and micro online. the distance learing link is here https://allnurses.com/forums/f125/online-science-courses-can-we-get-sticky-88965.html

Sure, if you where getting a from scratch BSN. Hell no for an an ADN. It would be simpler and WAY cheaper to just go the CC even if you had to re-locate for those 8 months.

Here is a CC where you can your RN in 8 months for about $3200 with no waiting list.

WCC is slipping further down my list. $38 -40K is a ton of money in my current financial situation.

i would only because i want to be a rn in order to work in different areas not for the money. i'm sure the money in several years will be good, but when i graduate as a rn i will take a big pay cut ....

CSU will be cheaper than WCC I think. Good Luck to getting into a program soon!

No way! LPN to RN programs are generally MUCH less competitive to get into than the generic RN programs. You should have no problem getting into a program once u do the pre reqs. I applied to two schools and got accepted the first time, and my GPA was borderline(I blew school off when I was much younger and my transcript shows it! I cleaned up my act when I decided to become a nurse).

The program Im in right now is 11 months (Jan to December) and we even get a month off in August...so technically its only 10 months! It costs around 3k! The community college I go to just recently put the transition program online, so we are only required to go to school for clinicals once a week or exams. We do our quizzes and assignments online. Its working out great because its very convenient and I can still work full time. I graduate in 6 months!

Please look into the community college bridge programs and talk to the school about them, I can almost promise you that you will get in very easily once u meet the requirements...and wont put yourself in a lot more debt in the process.
