Would manager or HR be impressed?

Hi Everyone... this question is not for me but for a fellow nurse that I know. Would a manager or recruiter be impressed if you told them that you quit your current job just for them (during orientation) ... and that they are your top choice?

They are more likely to think you are wishy-washy or have a poor sense of loyalty or stick to itness. I would never say anything like that to a prospective employer.

No, it would do the opposite of impress.

And in this economy, quitting to "pursue" another job is foolish. I would advise her to quit only if she has another offer in hand - and then to give adequate notice.

In an interview, the philosophy of "less is more" can often hold true. Don't answer things that aren't asked. Don't give flowery detail that goes off-topic. Sometimes the interviewer is listening for information you give that wasn't asked, and watching body language, facial expression, and tone of voice.

I agree, it is truly not a good idea to quit one job before you have the next for sure. Even if a person is hired, "the process" of it actually happening can take months--months without a paycheck.

Quitting shows lack of commitment so I don't think anyone would be impressed. I'm a new grad, and often I've been asked "so what have you been doing ever since graduation?" Just wondering, if your friend plans to not mention about quitting to the interviewer... what if the recruiter asked that question? are you obligated to tell the truth?

No.

That's not impressive.
