Lets say Jesus Christ was on earth today ,he went to school and became a nurse,and had the same attitude towards life that he ,apparently had 2000 years ago.
Would he be employable? Or would he make such a fuss when he saw the cost cutting at patients expense and the injustice of the health care system and the discrepancy of care bet/ those with money vs those without,that he would simply not be employable.
And for those christian nurses out there who try to follow his example in attitude and practice,Im one of them,do you find yourself making compromises between your efforts to follow Jesus' example in your daily life and the need to survive and be employable?
I thought it might be interesting to address the objections to Jesus as a nurse in a semi-scientific way, using documented evidence...

On one occasion his disciples fell asleep three times while he particularly needed their help. (Luke 22: 39-46)
3. I don't know if it's even worth bothering with this objection, as calculating med doses isn't rocket science, but here goes... "Even the hairs on your head are counted." (Matthew 10:30) If he can do that, he can calculate med doses.
4. In Luke 17: 11-19 he heals ten lepers with one sentence. Of course, the rest of the shift would be quiet! He healed whole towns in a day, too, though I couldn't find the quote for that.

At the outset I want to say this is just the theology of one human being,mine,and hence its at risk for fallibility,but some of these posts are confusing the human Jesus for the divine God.Jesus was a human and God ,well how should I say it, is a God.
Man, this is heavy at 0100 after work. In response, yes Jesus would be employable as a nurse because, of course there would be a Plan whereas He would work from within to affect change for the better. On a much lighter note: We might finally get to witness an end to the age old joke, "What's the difference between God and a doctor? God doesn't think He's a doctor."

This is a fabulous question and leads to all sorts of interesting questions.
Me, I am a pagan. Yet, I still think Jesus is well worth emulating. That is the wonderful thing about all spiritual paths, each and every person has thier own definition of what thier path means. One would hope this will lead to greater understanding and tolerance.
The first thing Jesus would have to do, before he got a position in nursing, would be to disarm the world, and I mean all the nukes, chemical and biological weapons...all of that...would have to be stopped.
The first thing someone would do is try to drop a hydrogen bomb on Jesus to see if he is tough enough and really the son of man.
I think that Jesus would be employable. He would probably come back with a more modern "American" look to fit in. Remember, the last time he was dressing and acting like a person of his times. And being a middle eastern guy with an agenda wouldn't be a good cover in the U. S. today.
I think he would try and make changes, and turn everyone in healthcare management away from their 'bottom line' attitudes. And as soon as he started making progress, they'd find a way to "crucify him" (but with more modern methods) all over again.

Jesus already was a doctor, He healed the sick. His nursing instincts were there....he didn't feel it was beneath his dignity to bring you a cup of water, or even to wash your feet. He preached that we all need to serve one another this way. But He decided not to do this all the time as a profession. He wasn't employable, He chose to heal out in the crowded streets, not in a septic environment. That's why Sister Theresa wandered like she did.
