Would you call?

Published

I had a job interview on Monday. The interviewer told me she plans to make a decision by "the end of the week". It's nearly 1:00 pm on Friday and I haven't heard anything.

I hate playing the waiting game... Should I make a follow up phone call? Or just wait it out?

No, I wouldn't call unless you don't hear anything next week.

This assumes, of course, that you sent the appropriate hand written note after the interview and they know you want the job, lol. If you failed to do that, I'd do it today, as in get into the 4:00 mail even if it means driving to the main branch of the USPS, and then follow up with a phone call middle of next week.

I am in the same boat today. Interviewed on Tuesday, was told that they were going to have decisions made, and wanted/needed to have positions offered and accepted by today. The interview went really well, at least I thought so. The gal told me that the one who called me to set the interview up would be the one to let me know, and I asked if I could be called either way....she said she would let her know.

I have heard nothing. I'm assuming bad news, much as I don't want to, but I've had other interviews in my search that I thought went well, and ended up being passed over. It's depressing. I was hoping to have something to celebrate this weekend, I guess that was hoping for too much. :(

I'm still praying, but I don't know what to think now.

You want to make them call you? Then go to the grocery store and get your cart full and be in line in front of a mom that cannot control her screaming kids.

That employer will be sure to call you right at that moment. :)

Yup, this happened to me. I was in Office Max on tax-free weekend, the Friday afternoon before the 1st day (Monday) of school. I think you get the picture. That was the offer of the position. When they called back with a salary offer, I was boarding a train trying to cross 4 terminals (with 20 minutes to boarding) in one of the busiest airports in the US on a Monday morning. They must think I'm always surrounded by chaos!

Try to be patient - from experience I know how tough that is. A few Fridays ago, I went into for two interviews to the same hospital systems, and the nurse managers got together and asked to make it a double interview at once. I was told by them, they wanted to the decisions to be made by the middle of the following week. I would have worked at either position, but really wanted the one on the telemetry floor. Being a new graduate, and having gone for a dozen interviews since march and not having any luck , I was trying not to get my hopes up. I didn't hear anything by the middle of the following week, and at the end of the week, got a "Thanks, but no thank you" email for one of the positions. I was a wreck all weekend, sure I didn't get the second position. By Tuesday, I had given up hope, and as I sat down for a hour long doctor appt, my phone rang, and it was them to offer me the tele position, though I couldn't answer it at the time. By the time I got home, and got my nerves in order to call them back, I was in shock.

Long story short, they could still call and offer you the job, there is no telling what is holding it up. Take a deep breath, and give them some time on Tuesday and call them back that afternoon :yeah:

Do you think this means I didn't get the job? Honestly?

Don't read anything into it.

It's a holiday weekend, and a lot of stuff gets tabled as folks try to get started ASAP
