Worst news for RNs from India, Philippines and China

Published

update on may 11 2005 :

you can consider this thread as closed since information posted here became obsolete on may 11 2005, once president george w bush signed the apropriations bill in to a law to make additional 50,000 visas available for nurses. this thread was started on dec 11 2004 when the worst news hit rn community that the pd dates have been retrogressed to jan 2002 and nurses will be the hardest hit.

now its official.

pd dates for eb3 cases from india, china, philippines retrogress to jan 2002.

read the official visa bulletin at http://www.travel.state.gov/visa/frvi_bulletincurrent.html

this is worst news for the rn community who wish to migrate to us.

this means that, rns who are already in us will not be able to file i485 (aos) after dec 31 2004 till the priority dates become current. its not clear how long it will take.

those who have managed to file aos will have a huuuuuuuuuge waiting time for their gc apporval.

those who are outside us, will have a loooooooong wait

for someone who is in us and has either cgfns/ncelx (with or without visascreen), the only option is to get an employer to file for i140 and 485 before dec 31 2004. this will make them eligible for ead and legal status in us.

considering the rn shortage, there are chances that they may introduce a new visa category or an exception for nurses. depends on how hard the empoyers lobby the congress.

I sign a contract with the hospital but they r tie up with the agency who is responsible for immigration processing their stuff is for payment only.

It was stated in the contract that the employer r responsible for the agency and lawyer's fee and we will be the one who is responsible for visascreen, medical exam and visa application.

i got the result of my tse and i failed. I got 45. too close. what do you think would i do next?

you mean when i finish my nurse-practitioner certification in the US i will have a master's degree also. so, it is pointless to have my Master's degree here. I tought it is two different entity.

thanks... God bless you.

With the Nurse Practitioner program you will receive a Master's degree. It will be easier for you to do the whole thing in the US. I do not know anything about the hospital where you are contracted to, but many companies have cancelled contracts due to the retrogression. If they are keeping it, and not having you complete the NCLEX until you arrive in the US, I would be quite leary of that contract. Especially since NCLEX can be written in Seoul, Hong Kong, as well as Saipan.

I do not like the current TSE exam. I much prefer the IELTS series, as you have a human examiner in front of you for the speaking part. Perhaps you will do better with that exam. Most of the nurses from your area have.

my problem is that f it would be better if i take my master's because the process in immigration is really though. If i will stay here for 2years or more i might as well go to grad school to earn MAN. but you were stipulating that is i should do the whole thing in the US and earn a MSN,NP degree?. So if i do it here and have a nurse practitioner program in the US; it only means i earned two master's in nursing. quite redundant! MAN,MSN,NP?

thanks

god bless you!

are you still teaching right now or working in the hospital as a nurse? good luck

I am doing a travel assignment in the US right now, as well as teaching.

If you definitely want the nurse practitioner role, then go for the MSN over here...............you can come over on an F1 visa and attend school, if you have the funds available to you..............

There are also programs available here that you can do primarily on-line and only come over for short intervals...............

i dont have the funds i am planning to take the nurse practitioner program when i am alrready working in the US. I keep on thinking in pursuing my master's here because realistically the immigration process will takes so much time. I don't want my time to be wasted.

thanks. god bless you. have a nice week ahead of you

Hello to all the members of this forum/discussion! I just joined this forum. I am from the Philippines and a registered nurse of New York. I have already submitted all the required documents for immigration as of January 13, 2005 and is just waiting for a visa number. My priority date is April 15, 2004. Do you have any idea how long I have to wait for a visa number given the retrogression? I have been told by the NVC to wait for their notice 6 to 8 weeks from 13 January 2005 but until now I have not received any.

Hi Suzanne! I have been reading all your posts. it is very informative and encouraging. Thanks for all the information.

Specializes in Medical-Surgical.

Hello and welcome to allnurses!

You might as well get busy because its going to be a long wait unless the US Congress will act fast on Lantos Bill to ease the retrogression. Mine is Nov 2003 and on Packet 3. I have accepted the situation. The thing that makes me happy is that my petition is approved. Just have to wait my visa in a year or two. :)

Good luck!

If you are planning on getting nurse practitioner certification, I would definitely wait until you are in the US. You will have to take so many credits in the program to get your degree from them that it doesn't pay to begin it out of the country. You will also have difficulties in getting some of those credits to transfer into the program. Save your time and money and wait...

Your choice.................

Welcome............Have you completed all of the requirements for the Visa Screen Certificate? If not, I would definitely get that done so that you will be ready when things are straightened out. :)

Thanks REp and Suzanne4 for welcoming me!

I have already complied with all the requirements including the visa screen certificate and is waiting for the notice of interview and medical examination.I guess its going to be a long wait...Am i going to wait for three years?

Depends on how long the retrogression lasts, and no one has a crystal ball for that. California normally has a two year processing time, so it will also depend on where you are going to................

New York is my destination. My petition was approved last July 2004. Which is more advantageous , patitioned by a hospital or an agency?
