Hi all,
I am about to begin the ASN program in the Spring, however, I am stuck in a swirl of worry. Currently, I work full-time (Nights, 46 hr/wk) in a completely unrelated field. It is a good job with great pay and benefits. I am seriously contemplating downgrading my position to part-time to carry me through the program (in addition to student loans). I am going to wait until I see what the workload/schedule is like until I actually decide. Yet, over and over again, I keep coming across the "unemployed new grad" post. It is such a sacrifice for me to give up my position (mainly to give myself the time to study) and I am beginning to feel as though it is going to be for the unemployed dead end. Any thoughts on this? Thanks!

Do you want to be a nurse? By that, I mean, are you passionate about becoming a nurse?
Weigh your options: continue in your current job until you retire (whether you're happy or not) or take a gamble by going back to school, becoming a nurse, and eventually working in the career of your dreams, even if that means not getting an RN job immediately upon graduating.

I'm definitely worried about finding a job after graduation in May of next year. I'm trying to get myself set up with the best possible chances though, I was a nurse intern and I'm a tech at the hospital that we do clinicals at. I have a decent resume and good grades. Hopefully I'll find something *cross fingers*

Depressing thought: either the economy will turn around by the time you're out of your ADN program, or the entire country will be going down the tubes at that point, with people finally calling this "recession" a depression.
