Hi!

Im at full time student, married at home mom of two school aged boys. This spring I'll start my last yr of pre-reqs im taking two classes this spring, a&p 2 this summer and physics and micrbio fall. Im considering getting a job as a patient care asst. I worked as a unit sect for 15 mths a few years ago, and as a patient care asst for a few months (had to quit because I found out I was preggers) its been atleast 5 years since I worked in a hospital setting but I'm hoping that my time and experience plus the fact that I am a pre-nursing student will make me desirable and show my potential as a future nurse. Should I just continue on my path to my BSN full time without working or can I step back into the workforce and start laying the foundation for marketable resume???

((((HELP))))

I worked full time while doing my pre-reqs, and full time my first two semesters of nursing school. It's doable and it may help you get your foot in the door so that you can get a job when you graduate.

Thank you for your response that's my biggest motivation. My concerns tho are the lapse in time since my last job in a hospital. Nowadays you have to have certification for what I used to do. All I've gained since that time is college credits.

I am in somewhat similar situation. However, I am presently working full time in another field and I was trying to figure out how go from full time to part time. I don't think you should have any problem juggling work and school especially since you have worked in the field before so you know what you handle. Good Luck!

i work full time and go to school (BSN degree) full time. Is it hard - yes - but you do what you ahve to do. We have put off having children until i am finished with school - i graduate in May - but i have many friends in school that do go full time and have small ones at home. Some work a few shifts a month as a CNA, have children and go to school full time. It is what you can handle and what is best for you and your family. Breathe deeply and know that it will be worth it in the end!

I work full time as a PCT in the ICU and go to school full time. I have a husband and baby too! I feel ya! Go for that job, it looks so good on your resume.

It really depends on how much you are going to work. 20 hours or less I can see working out fine with your classes in the fall and spring. I personally don't reach my full potential if I work more than 20 hours a week. How long are the summer classes at your school? If it is only like 7 or 8 week course with a&p 2 and your working make sure you can handle it. Your grades are most important. Good luck in your decision! :)
