Working Out 6- 7 days a week

I'm tired of hearing myself complain about being tired all the time! And I know this has to do with not working out. I want to restore my energy and get back in shape. I'm in my early/mid-20s and feel I should have more energy than this.

Do you guys work out often?

Not trying to disagree with the last two post…very close to being correct.

As a competitive bodybuilder for ten years..(I am 38) 6 days of weight training is fine. It allows for every muscle group to be targeted each one of those days. And 30-45 minutes of cardio everyday is good for you.

Now if you do not supply your body with the nutrients it needs to repair and rebuild, then yes you can regress your body, rather than strengthen and build, by working out everyday. If your diet is not filled with the correct macro and micro nutrients you will feel less than you best either way.

I could go much further in detail, but I and many friends in the physique industry follow the idea that diet is key to fitness. And there is no such thing as over-training, just under eating (nutrient deficit).

You can lift 6-7 days a week if you target different muscle groups, rotate them. Chest one day, arms and shoulders another and the dreaded leg-day another. And then back to chest. But doing, say, bench presses 7 days a week isn't giving your chest a chance to recover. Or at least that's what I've always been told.

I workout 4-5 times a week. I do the Jillian michaels DVDs, I borrow them from the library and I own a couple of the ones that I like the most. I have much more energy and feel better about myself when I workout, it's totally worth it even if I don't always see the outer results I want to see I still get results in terms of strength, stamina, energy.

No. I have gained 20 pounds since I switched from hospital to school nursing. I belong to a gym, but I haven't gone in a month. I am depressed by the snow...but guess what? Winter comes every year. I have to get on track as well.

This is motivating me.

Imagine working an 18 hour shift and having NO pain on the bottom of your feet! Now stop imagining and look down at the gut protruding over your waistline under your shirt. Squeeze it. Grab it in your hands and pull it up and down like you're Adam Sandler in Click. This is reality. D':

Now go do pushups until you feel intense burning that you know will turn into soreness the next morning. Oddly enough, I am more inclined to work out when I feel the soreness of a previous physical exertion. You are welcome, intrepid reader of this comment!

Using a treadmill or jogging daily is good for you. But don't try and lift weights 6-7 days a week. You need to give your muscles time to rest and repair between work outs. Moderate cardio every day, and lifting 3 days a week (like M-W-F) will bring good results.

cardio is my main interest tbh. Has anyone joined a meetup group dedicated to fitness? I'd like to do some things like sprinting and running but I think I need the motivation of others with like minds.

I'm joined a group on facebook pertaining to the dvds I use. Everyone is really friendly. It has really helped motivate me on days I don't feel like working out.

I recently signed up for dailyburn and it's pretty awesome! It's only 12.95 a month with a free 30 day trial and there is a big library of workouts ranging from 15min-60 min. I can stream it through the play station too, I'm loving all the workouts I've done so far! Thought I'd share :)

Update: I have started walking/running again. No weights yet. I feel a lot better, although that may be a seasonal North East thing.

Does anyone work out after there are eight hour shift? I'm usually too exhausted, and I have to come home and cook dinner and do homework with the kids etc. I've tried to do it first thing in the morning which means getting up about 4 AM!

I tend to be a weekend warrior, and then nothing for days.

My question is where does everyone find the time to work out several times a week?

When I worked in the clinic which were sometimes 10 hour days I worked out at 5:15 in the morning. Now I work much less hours as a school nurse, but I took this job because my at home responsibilities are more. I do still squeeze it in, usually a walk with the dog, drop her off, then run walk.

The first couple of days it is hard, but once that passes I tend to look forward to it.
