Why are so many people today shunning real medicine, vaccines etc for hoaxes and gimmicks like essential oils, weight loss powders, etc? Any ideas why so many are turning away from actual medicine?

The whole vampire mythos is the story of struggle with inner demons and weakness. The theme being vampires cannot be trusted because they will lose control. I think that is what gives them appeal, the likeness to ourselves.

Today's hocus pocus is tomorrow's miracle. Didn't Edward Jenner have to be bonkers to deliberately inject someone with smallpox? When I was in nursing school (before the earth's crust cooled) I never dreamed I'd ever be applying leeches on anyone.
Yes, some people will eschew established medicine in favour of something completely out to lunch. But we always have to be careful not to throw the baby out with the bath water. In addition to administering phenergan, I often put a dab of lavender oil on the nausea-sufferer's pillowcase. It really doesn't pay to be snobbish about anything.

So was I. Witches and nurses have never fared well in the media.

"That stuff"? You mean like the "stuff" they talk about in a church or a mosque or a synagogue? You don't know what anyone believes until you study their beliefs. Hint: Hollywood can be counted on to get it dead wrong and many sincere believers of any stripe will not shout their beliefs from rooftops.
As a nurse (or any healthcare professional) it's always a safe policy to respectfully shut up about what you know nothing about.

Witchcraft is a spiritual practice. Practicing it does not mean forgoing intelligent use of modern medicine. It is also notable that “placebo effect” is quite powerful in some instances, equal or more so, than standard medicine in many people.

As a practicing witch, OP is very out of touch. Human nature dictates that when one doesn't understand something, the first thing to do is to either fear it or make fun of it. I'll leave it at that.

Like I said previously, I did not realize people were still witches in the 21st century. Religion as a whole seems to be becoming somewhat obsolete I would assume because of science.
I am fascinated with the practices of witchcraft! I totally get the natural remedies etc, but what is the necessity of turquoise stones in the spell I posted? What would happen if other stones were used? How do you test whether the spells work when it is something like luck? Does your luck turn around enough to where it’s just completely obvious?
If you're genuinely fascinated, there's a plethora of books, websites, forums, etc to choose from to further educate yourself. I don't use stones, so I can't answer those questions. I mainly do hearth and kitchen magic with a focus on hoodoo, the magic of my ancestors. I see magic as a respectful manipulation of the energy that is all around us.
Sometimes magic is simply courage, sometimes it's something more. It all depends on the user, the spell, and other factors.

OP I'm surprised you don't believe in witches considering you clearly are okay with trolls ?

Wonderful reply! I use divination and am a healer that uses modern medicine. OP clearly needs to educate themselves and I’m thankful you helped.

Thank you! I feel that people are so quick to forget that natural remedies have a time and a place and saved our ancestors. That knowledge still has a place in our society. While it can't replace modern medicine, and shouldn't, it doesn't deserve to be treated like snake oil. The key is time and place. I am a woman of science and believe wholeheartedly in modern medicine, but there are somethings that can't be explained or haven't been yet and I'm ok with that. magic gives me a way to take some control over which I normally would have none.
