I've got a interview tomorrow for a Dialysis Tech position! I've been trying to get a job in a clinical setting for months now & this is the first interview I've gotten. The hours would be great (4:30am-5pm, three days a week). Not sure about the pay, but as long as it's as much or better than the pittance I'm making at my cousin's store, I'll be happy.

Fingers are crossed! Getting a foot in the door with this hospital would be excellent! :)

Well, actually, I was turned on to dialysis tech jobs by a classmate of mine in my A&P class. He's a DT & is going for his nursing degree. We were talking one day between lecture & lab & he told me that it was the kind of job that I could get without having any healthcare experience. So I started looking around & noticed that there were quite a few dialysis centers around. I applied to a couple & got an interview with this one, which is through a local hospital. This will give me an opportunity to get my foot in the door with this hospital (which is one of the ones I want to work for eventually anyway). Also, a lot of places will have great benefits...including tuition reimbursement or having your tuition paid for for nursing school. My friend told me too that with a few years dialysis experience, you can be hired as a dialysis nurse and make a couple bucks more per hour than regular new grads...AND you don't do too much more as a dialysis nurse than as a tech. So, I'm giving it a whirl. Can't hurt any! :)

And exactly how I got into nursing school.... and got my RN... AND tuition reimbursed 100%... books, exams, the WORKS.

I was a PCT for 5 years... 3 of them while studying for my RN. I absolutely LOVE dialysis nursing.

The only thing is if at all possible, choose a SMALL clinic. The large ones are horrible... no time for patient contact, they're like an assembly line. The staff turnover is outrageous because it is very rush, rush, and labor intensive. Can be extremely stressful.

A small clinic (up to thirty patients... or two shifts of about 10 patients per shift) is much MUCH nicer. So check them out thoroughly.

Wish you the best ! And yes, they DO train you quite well before you acyually go out on the floor... it is amazing what all you will learn. !

Actually, it'll work out better than my current job. Although I do get to leave a little early for my evening classes, only having to work 3 days a week will free up two whole days for classes. If I want to totally kill myself, I could even take evening classes on the days I work at the clinic, but I think I'll pass on that. ;) Anyway, having whole days instead of just evenings will be great. It's tough having to limit yourself to evening classes...they seem to fill up the fastest & sometimes it's hard to find an open evening session for what you need to take.
