will you work during school??

Published

ill be working 20hrs a week. becuase thats what it takes to keep my health ins. thanks Mitt for making ins mandatory. and either way we do the numbers, i just have to work. my husband is an LPN and hell keep up with his 50hrs a week. and short of eating spaghetti o's and hot dogs, and we all know how expensive food is. we keep everything to a minimum. mortgage, car pmt. etc. like most of us. we dont have any kids so were lucky there. and hubby will be taking over most of the house work so i can study.

so heres my question. will you work during school? how much. are you dreading the sleep deprivation? i am. i like my 10hrs a night.

My classes will begin September 2 and my last work day will be August 30.

Everybody in my school keeps telling how demanding LPN program is and that would be a real hassle to work full time and go to school full time. Thanks to my husband we can afford to not have my income for a year and we don't have kids also, just 6 cats:D

I think somehow you could manage working part time and going to school without being sleep deprived. But it's just my :twocents:

I am sooo excited about the school!!!

Good luck to you!

I worked full time during school (which was full time also 6hrs a day, 5 days a week, no breaks no vacations) We could have afforded for me not to work but then our health and dental benfits would be gone. (COBRA to pay for the 15 months in school was a brutal price)

I have two kids and a hubby. I would have probably liked to work less than full time but there was no way I could.

I didn't get any sleep deprevation d/t me always being one who never sleeps longer than 5 hrs a night anyway.

LPN school is hard but I was able to swing full time work, school and family, as were plenty of other people.

I think I would lose my mind if I worked. Kids, school and everyone else is enough to make me want to jump off a bridge. My hair is already falling out and I know work will make it worse. Good luck. Some ppl. are stronger than others.

hi webbabe... i start school on aug 25 and i will be working 16 hours a week. (sat and sun only). i am 21 years old and have no kids, not married....yet!! i still live with my mom and although im still on her insurance until i turn 24 i prefer to work and help her out with the bills a little. i think we will be able to manage. i want this so bad and failure is not an option. good luck to u!!!!

Well for me I will be working 40hours a week evening shift. Although I have a spouse for help we have to keep extra bills to a bare minimum. Mortgage, car insurance, time share payment and loan payment thats it and of course regular house bills. This year with me being in school will probably be financial HELL!!!!Not mention were will I find time to study!!!!!I pray I make it!!!!!!!!!!!!

So did you find it unbearable. Because I have to keep my job working 40 hours a week

Well my original plan was to work...then I found out just how demanding and time consuming the program was and me and hubby agreed that we would have to start keeping our spending to an absolute minimum, plus he was gonna find a second job and attempt to carry the both of us (no kids yet...thank god!) on his shoulders for the next 11 months. Then a miracle happened....I GOT LAID OFF!! For most, thats the worst thing that could have possibly happened but for me, it meant qualifying for 39 weeks of unemployment which is almost the length of my entire program! So now, money is still tight (we try to save as much as possible for a rainy day since only one of us is working) but my husband didn't have to get a second job and that freed him up to help out around the house so I could focus on my studies!

Well Ms nathalyathaly you have truly been blessed!!!!Good for you !!!!!However in my situation I will just have to take on the work load head on. Our mortgage requires two incomes there is no skating around it. How is the workload????????????

Thanks! The workload is TOUGH!!! I have never had, and never imajined i would have to work so hard to get a B-! LOL Sometimes i wonder how I will ever be able to do it (I just started), but then I look around at some of my classmates who have children, husbands and full time jobs and I know that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. They are so impressive!! I think that sometimes, having limited time can be used as a strength to a certain extent because it teaches you time management whereas for some, having an unlimited amount of time can work against you because it gives you the opportunity to procrastinate. As long as you NEVER put ANYTHING off (always seize every available opportunity to study whether you feel like it or not, even if it means multitasking) and you take school seriously, you should be fine. It is tough but definitely doable as long as you develop and maintain tunnel vision....The end is always in sight...pretty soon you're going to be exclaiming "wow, that went by sooo fast! where did the time go?"! You can do it!!! :yeah::yeah::yeah:

Good Luck!

Just curious if you have checked to see if you can get unemployment benefits while you are a student. I am pretty sure that I have read somewhere that you can't do both, ( recieve benefits and attend school full time)

Not trying deny you of your miracle, just want you to be prepared if this is indeed the case.

Good Luck To You

Yea I am working part time. I jus quit my full time job and now have a new part time job. I have an apartment so not working is not an option lol:chuckle. Tho my father is going to pay my rent up front for the rest of the year so that I dont have to worry about it but that still leaves the light bill and cable which I think I can handle. I am a little afraid. I am stressing thinkin that I wont be able to manage both..and by the end of my program I will probably be a total nut job!!!! But I really want this and I have alot of support. We'll be fine:saint:
