Will you still have pre/co-requisites to take while in NS?

Published

Hi everyone,

I was wondering how many people who are in nursing school or starting soon will still have some courses to take besides nursing classes? Is it very difficult to take other classes while in nursing?

I'll take Physiology with my first semester of Nursing.

AM I crazy????

I had to take A&P II my first semester of Nursing, and it was very stressful. I made it through though...just make sure you don't neglect Anatomy, because that's easy to do when you're trying to focus on all of your Nursing classes.

I have all my pre-reqs done along with a billion other credits but I have to take a stats class and pharmocology along with nursing classes. I do have to take a hawaiian culture class but I will do that online over the summer, its just a graduation req of my school. I do need one more chemistry class, for schooling after I get my BSN.

Nada! I have all pre and co requisites complete and my previous BA covers the jr. level writing and diversity requirements.

Nope I will have all my prereqs done. How can you get into a program without all the prereqs done? I will also have all co requsites done as well as some classes that were prereqs for other programs too. I hope that this gives me the upper hand because the core nursing courses are 12 units each term and full time is expected to be 15-16 units so I guess most people will be taking one other academic course per term. How many units are your programs per term?

I'll only be taking nursing core courses. My first semester will be 13 hrs - most people in my program will be taking 16 hrs the first semester but I took pathophysiology at another school and transferred it in. The following four semesters vary between 14 hrs and 16 hrs I believe.

I think I have 16 hours this semester, only 3 classes, but my next two semesters are only 10 hours of NS stuff and I gotta do stats and pharm each one of those. I guess it balances out with 13 hours.

In order to apply for the Nursing program at my school, I had to have all pre- and co reqs done. Thank goodness I can focus on NS (come on August 22!). I am surprised to see how many credit hours are required at other schools! My first, second and forth semester are 10 credit hours and the third is 12.;) Good Luck everyone!

Mine are done, but I am taking a few RN-BSN classes.

I still have to take micro before I start the second year of the program, so I will be taking it next summer quarter when I won't have any nursing classes going on.

I posted this on my own thread, but I will post it here as well. In our nursing program, organic needs to be complete by the first semester of NS and micro lecture and lab needs to be complete by the second semester. Nutrition cannot be taken until organic chem is complete. Other than those, all other prereqs must be compete. Since so many of you guys have so many credit hours per semester in NS, maybe my organic chem, micro lab and nutrition will be a breeze. Here is what my semesters look like and it includes my three prereqs and nursing classes:

Semester 1: 8 credit hours

Semester 2: 9 credit hours

Semester 3: 9 credit hours

Semester 4: 10 credit hours

That's it! Plus, I will probably take one or two nursing classes next summer and therefore semester 3 & 4 will be even less.

I'll be done with them all! Thank God, I've just recently learned that for my first semester of the program, I have to take 18 Credit Hours based on their semester layout. There's no way I'd be fitting any prerequisites in there. :clown:

I'm surprised how few some have to take. I'm wondering if there is a variation between BSN and ASN/ ADN programs. I'll be in a BSN program.

I have to take anatomy with my first nursing classes this semester - I already took Physiology last spring and I didn't want to take anatomy in the summer (5 weeks, 5 days a week 4 hours a day - no way!!) so I'll hunker down - I'm already studying and classes don't start till 8/22
