i graduate saturday, 5/10, and have accepted a job at a hospital starting monday, 5/19.
i am suddenly worried that i will not have my temp license in time to start (just found out that i cannot even start orientation without it). :omy:
i have already applied for license by examination (temp & regular), sent the requests for my transcripts to be sent to the bon, and registered with the testing facility that administers the nclex-rn.
did anyone start a job right after graduation and have any insight into whether this timeframe is realistic?
the next scheduled orientation is another month away and i do not want to have to wait another month!:plsebeg:
thanks!

Unless it has changed since last year, as soon as you pass the NCLEX, you can go to the NH BON site and print out a copy of your license number. NH doesn't issue paper licenses any longer. MA does, but not NH. You will be able to see your license number though, which is what employers need, and they can verify with BON that way also.
thanks, redsox. but what i am asking about is temporary licenses, issued before you take nclex-rn, enabling you to work until you've taken the exam.
Same thing applies. A temp license number is issued and available on the BON website. Employers can and do check the website to verify. I applied for the temp, but nothing is received paper-wise. NH I believe is totally paper-free!
i'm sorry. i must not be clear in my question. :smackingf
i know it's all paperless. my question/concern is whether there will be enough time for bon to get my transcripts, process my application and put my temp license online in order for me to start 5/19.
i so appreciate you sticking with me, redsox! :)
(p.s. have you seen that the yankees stadium/ortiz shirt is up over $50,000 on ebay???)
I guess that depends on how soon you get your transcripts. I got mine several weeks before graduation, and it took about 2 weeks for the BON to process. If your school doesn't give them out before graduation, I'd say you probably would not have enough time. That is their "busy" time of year with graduations. Plus I'm assuming that NH has already implemented their fingerprint thing with the license process? I could be wrong there. I know the criminal background check was something I had to wait on also. I don't think 9 days will be enough, especially if they do have people fingerprinted now.
yes, I have seen the ebay listing! I moved to NC a couple months ago, and am missing seeing my Sox every day very badly!!
nh does have fingerprinting, but because i already have an lna license, i am "grandfathered" and do not have to do that. i will have to look into getting transcripts sent before graduation. i don't know if it's even possible, because my final is 5/3 and graduation is 5/10. not a huge difference in there.
thanks for the info. that's exactly what i needed to know!

i am somewhat in the same position. i am in an rn program in boston but going to be sitting for the nclex-pn to be an lpn in nh. (we can't do that in ma unless we are in an "official" lpn program. i graduate from the rn program in december.)
the board stated it would take a day or 2 to process my temp license once they received my transcript.
i would speak with your professor in advance and explain to them your situation. they should be able to enter your grade quickly after your final. i would also speak to the registrar's office and ask them how long it takes to get your class and grade on that transcript and what the best way in which to facilitate that would be.
the board is not what is going to take a long time...it will be your school that will take most of the time.
my final is on may 12th and i am looking to start around june 1st.

Talk to someone in the registrars office and see when all grades are posted and tabulated so that your transcripts can be printed and sent. Explain why you need your transcript sent right out and confirm that this is possible and be real nice! Even if it is a few days before grad, that will be a help.
Also, you can call or email BON and talk to them about this and make sure you have EVERYTHING else in order already (with a verbal confirmation) so that when they do get the transcript they can process right away and you should be set. Again be real polite and nice and they will most likely be more than willing to help you out.
I am in a similar situation as I need to have my license in hand by June 15th to transfer into a BSN program. The ladies at BON have been remarkable in helping make sure this will happen and also in calming me down so I am not so nervous about missing the deadline.....
Best wishes to you and Congrats!
Almost forgot, our Director had to send out a form with all the names of the grads on it to the BON. Not sure what it was exactly but that also needs to be in, so you may want to find out if that has been sent or not.......

You do not get a license till you test..................they used to have something called a grn graduate nurse but that doesn't exist amymore.
BKLNBORN, That varies by state, but you are right that NH does not let you practice as a GN. But they do issue temporary licenses to new grads which are good for 120 days (or less if you fail an NCLEX-RN attempt).
