Hey all!

I got accepted to the postgraduate pmhnp program at wilkes for fall 2020. Thought I'd create a thread for us.

Any idea how much tuition till cost for us? Based on credit hours, I estimate round $13K, not counting books, etc. Any specific idea of cost would be appreciated.

Also, around what time should we expect to go to orientation?

Looking forward to hearing from you all!

GeroPsych- I also have had issues with getting answers. Do you mind telling me what you had to submit for the admission process?

I filled out the application, submitted my resume and transcripts. According to the admissions counselor I will get a welcome call in the next two weeks and will attend orientation a week before classes start.... I thought there would be more to it, such as submitting a letter of recommendation and take an exam?

They also told me that they would find preceptors if I start Aug 31 2020. That is a really good idea to have them send it in writing! I wonder why they can't?

I do know they are super busy due to Covid but it is definitely making me wary about this program.

Hi,

You are correct, no letters of recommendation or testing are required. I just filled out the application, submitted my transcripts and they gave me a decision pretty quickly (2 weeks). However, I have not been able to get any more information past the email/letter of acceptance and how to pay my deposit.

You're welcome! Know that I am also waiting for the official plan of study. I can, however, confirm that depending on your transfer classes, you would probably be only taking six courses- 16 credits like myself. 2 classes - 4 credit in the fall, six credits in Spring and Summer including 500 clinical hours for 2nd and 3rd semester. They have also begun zoom meetings starting tomorrow. I have mine tomorrow. There will be more dates added per my advisor.

Good to know! I think a Zoom meeting would ease my worries some. I know the admissions counselor mentioned a "welcome webinar" but she never gave me the information to attend. I hope your Zoom meeting goes well tomorrow!

Thanks! I will keep you posted on how it goes.

Just an update - the zoom meeting was interactive. They allowed students to ask questions about the program and also talked about the next step in the process- getting registered. Orientation will be via zoom approximately two weeks to the beginning of class.

Hi there. Sorry I haven’t had a chance to comment. I asked our current contact person about this. She said this is a “new” program although the content is the same. I am a little upset because we pay the same tuition but will not get any assistance and also we do not continue clinical over the Summer. I have Fall & Spring left but I’m facing an hour+ commute for rotations this Fall vs. postponing. I guess they decided people needed help with rotations but it should have extended to the “older” cohort. For my previous FNP program, we paid $500 “lab” fee which was used to pay the preceptors. I hope Wilkes is successful in securing preceptors for all the students they are accepting. It’s not easy to find these folks!! Good Luck in the program!

I can understand why you upset and would be also if I was in your shoes. I don't understand why it can't be extended to current students. You will, however, get through this challenge with God's help.

Thanks for posting an update! I am scheduled for my Zoom call later this week. Happy to finally receive some clarification on things,

Oh....OK. So they have retooled the program. It makes sense now why there are some differences. It's a shame they are not offering to help your cohort. We'll see if they can accommodate all of us......Thanks for commenting!

FNP Dreams, Are you aware you can also use telepsych for your clinical hours?

The letter we received to prepare us for rotations states Telehealth is not an acceptable clinical site. So I do not believe we are allowed to use.

You may want to recheck with your advisor as I believe that has been updated, and for current students during the fall semester, you can complete all 250 hours via telepsych. I know someone who will be going this route during the fall semester, though that will be her final semester.

Hi All,

I was accepted to the PMHNP post masters program for fall 2020 and paid my deposit but I have been having such a hard time getting my "program of study". I just want to make sure they counted my 3P's from my primary care NP program and to know how long the program will take. On this forum, it was mentioned that you have to take off for the Summer semester but the "admissions specialist" told me I can go straight through. I also asked for written confirmation that they will find my preceptors. No one will give me a straight answer in writing! It has been frustrating and I am strongly leaning towards getting my money back and going with another program before it's too late. Any thoughts or advice would be welcome!

Hello,

I am thinking about applying to this program. I spoke to an advisor yesterday. He said that the school will help me find preceptors and that I will be done in 1 year (I have FNP-C). The ‘residency’ requirement is supposed to only be a meeting with a preceptor to see how things are going, not really for skills assessment, is what I was told. Most everything about the program sounds good, though I am a bit skeptical about the school finding clinical preceptors for you. I asked the advisor how this has been working for other students in prior semesters, I was told that it has been working great. But I read in here that fall 2020 is the first semester the school will be helping with setting up preceptors?? Strange

My biggest question is are we able to use financial aid for the post masters certification? This will be the deciding factor for me. Does anyone know?

I am currently enrolled in Washburn university, but this program is 2 years because it doesn’t go through Summer semesters, so I started looking around again. Wilkes appealed to me because it said in sure that clinical placement is guaranteed.
