Hey all!

I got accepted to the postgraduate pmhnp program at wilkes for fall 2020. Thought I'd create a thread for us.

Any idea how much tuition till cost for us? Based on credit hours, I estimate round $13K, not counting books, etc. Any specific idea of cost would be appreciated.

Also, around what time should we expect to go to orientation?

Looking forward to hearing from you all!

Hi Dayzee NP,

I believe you are correct about the residency. There is no on campus requirement. As far as preceptors, that is not true. They provide NO assistance at the moment and will not for the current cohort going forward. Communication is not the best. We were told telehealth was not acceptable but apparently it is...after beating my head against a wall trying to find someone. I’m honestly not sure how that would work either. I am facing potentially a very long commute for clinicals right now.

You cannot use financial aide for the certificate. Only for MSN, DNP degree program etc. Many certificate programs have the same stipulation. Johns Hopkins does allow it but it’s extremely difficult to get in. U of Cincinnati and U of New Hampshire also do not allow financial aid (Federal Direct Loans).

I am a little frustrated myself right now to be honest. Best of luck whatever you decide!! Honestly nursing needs to get its act together. We are always playing catch up with our educational process. Just a disorganized approach IMHO!

I believe that students beginning in the fall semester are able to use financial aid for the certificate program.

Honestly that’s just even more upsetting because I tried to tell them that I thought they were incorrect since other schools were doing it but they were adamant that the program didn’t qualify. I’m so frustrated. We are being told it’s a “different program” but I don’t see any difference in the curriculum or the tuition. I’m going to call financial aide and ask now. I just feel like the forgotten stepchild! Like what program did we enroll in this year and why??!!

I am sorry about this mess and I don't see why you can't apply. I pray that you are able to receive all the help you need as well.

Thanks! ? I am in my second to last semester in Fall. I hope I can continue. Usually in a program like this financial aide is just Federal Loans. I was going to try and cover it myself. I will ask. Very poor communication. It was like that from the beginning. Many of these programs are not well organized.

You're welcome! You are also correct as we are only eligible for loans or scholarships at the Masters's level and on. No free grants for us except for the undergraduate students, even not second-degree students as well.

It will also not hurt to ask them if you qualify for covid grants for current students. I know it mentioned on their website; this might be for the students who were on campus. Ask anyway, at least this is only opened to current students. This is the lucky break for you all, hopefully, and finally. ?

I am pretty sure the Covid grants are for students in a certain income category who were enrolled in degree programs. I want to say undergrads too. I don’t think I would qualify. There is a new President so maybe he is overhauling programs and policies...hard to say. Thanks for your support!! ??

Hi All,

Glad this thread was created. I got accepted for fall 2020 as well. Is there a facebook page created that I join?. I am still waiting on my gap analysis so don't know which classes I will be taking yet. I attended the registration seminar this week and it was informative and interactive. Let me know if there is anyone who lives in the DMV area. I did not know much about this program like most of you. However, as well the tuition is lower than most I've seen. Hope to have a great start in a couple of weeks or so.

[...]depending on your transfer classes, you would probably be only taking six courses- 16 credits like myself. 2 classes - 4 credit in the fall, six credits in Spring and Summer including 500 clinical hours for 2nd and 3rd semester.

I’m curious what you are including as the 6th course? I speculated on a spreadsheet that my plan would be. Is this what you are referring to?:

[556+552]->[526+535]->[527+536]

Thanks much!!

EDIT: Changing course numbers based on response. I think 556 may map to a 3 credit APN/Rural Health course during my MSN/FNP. Time will tell.

Hello,

I am thinking about applying to this program. I spoke to an advisor yesterday. He said that the school will help me find preceptors and that I will be done in 1 year (I have FNP-C). The ‘residency’ requirement is supposed to only be a meeting with a preceptor to see how things are going, not really for skills assessment, is what I was told. Most everything about the program sounds good, though I am a bit skeptical about the school finding clinical preceptors for you. I asked the advisor how this has been working for other students in prior semesters, I was told that it has been working great. But I read in here that fall 2020 is the first semester the school will be helping with setting up preceptors?? Strange

My biggest question is are we able to use financial aid for the post masters certification? This will be the deciding factor for me. Does anyone know?

I am currently enrolled in Washburn university, but this program is 2 years because it doesn’t go through Summer semesters, so I started looking around again. Wilkes appealed to me because it said in sure that clinical p

Hi I would to know  more about the program for those already in it. I applied for the fall PMHNP program and got accepted but am trying to decide between other programs. Do they really ensure clinical placement? How are the classes like? Are Professors easily accessible? What does each class comprise of, quizzes, exams, discussion board? Are the exams proctored for each class also? Thanks and hoping to hear from someone.
