Hey all!

I got accepted to the postgraduate pmhnp program at wilkes for fall 2020. Thought I'd create a thread for us.

Any idea how much tuition till cost for us? Based on credit hours, I estimate round $13K, not counting books, etc. Any specific idea of cost would be appreciated.

Also, around what time should we expect to go to orientation?

Looking forward to hearing from you all!

Hi, FNP Dreams,

Thanks! How was the first semester? I hear we have three exams for psychopharm? What about the other class? Three papers and weekly discussions? I response? Also, $15 per each test?

Thanks!

I was not required to take other classes this semester due to my former coursework so cannot speak to that part. Yes. Weekly DB - 1 main post & minimum 1 response (I always did at least 2). 3 proctored exams using RPNow @ $15 apiece.

You too! Also ANCC I think allows teaching hours to apply for recert. Both will allow some portion of preceptor work to apply for recert as well. Don’t quote me because my FNP cert is thru AANP. Psych is only ANCC

It seems Psych is the up and coming Cert. due to the new standards!

Good & Bad...more competition for the already slim pickings in preceptors. I feel strongly that schools should be responsible for this. I thought there were guidelines to make this mandatory for program certification. Doesn’t seem enforceable

Yes that is the big issue finding Preceptors. Would you guys recommend paying for preceptors from the Preceptor web site, if it is the last choice?

I cannot speak to that. Did not need to do this in my previous program and even though my school said they do this (paid preceptor $500!), I still had to do legwork to find them. Honestly, with the cost of the program etc. I really cannot afford to do this. If you can do it, you can try. I would never take money from a student to precept them, but that’s my own opinion.

OK. I’m just wondering if I really can not find anyone. It would be my last resort.

You do what you have to. If you start early...keep good notes on who you contacted and when etc...hopefully you will be OK. I have heard people say they go in person which unfortunately is not an option at the current time. Make sure you have a good CV put together. I have streamlined the email that I’m sending to just the important bullet points. People are overwhelmed with emails right now. Always plan to follow up any email you send with a phone call. Other people may have some other ideas that worked for them.

Thank You. FNPDreams, excellent professional advice. I will start early, and have started already.

FNPDreams- I just spoke to admissions today (I am considering applying for the post master PMHNP) and she told me that they find clinical placement for you? Is this not true?

She also said that if due to covid the preceptor is not able to have me, then the school will find me placement elsewhere to complete my hours.
