Wilkes postgraduate PMHNP program fall 2020

Published

Hey all!

I got accepted to the postgraduate pmhnp program at wilkes for fall 2020. Thought I'd create a thread for us.

Any idea how much tuition till cost for us? Based on credit hours, I estimate round $13K, not counting books, etc. Any specific idea of cost would be appreciated.

Also, around what time should we expect to go to orientation?

Looking forward to hearing from you all!

Hi All... glad to read answers to questions that have been pondering my head regarding this program. @FNPDreams you mentioned no Clinicals during Summer. So am I correct to think that the postmasters program which is three semesters, however not consecutively since I’d have to sit out next Summer and finish next fall.... if I start fall 2020. Whew I hope you u see deans what I’m asking ?

Start-fall 2020, Spring 2021, skip Summer, complete Fall 2021?

That is correct. If you began the postgraduate program this fall, you should be done by the end of next fall.

Thanks for your quick response! That really helps to narrow things down. Wanted to completed 3 semesters straight but hey, I might need a break... LOL

Hi MarcoNP,

I would like to know what did you think about the DNP Program you attended?

Hi, I completed my DNP IN ‘17. Really enjoyed the program a lot. Only regret is not pursuing PMHNP at the same time. If I’d gone that route, I wouldn’t be in this position now but at the time, I was afraid that if I didn’t start my DNP, PMHNP wasn’t an option, I wouldn’t Completed my DNP at all..... shame on me for thinking that way ?

It’s good you did it. Is the writing a lot different than Masters level?

After I finish my Psych NP I’m going back for my DNP.

For me, DNP was quite different on many ways... the papers required more thought and research. A greater understanding, be-it with stakeholders, financials, or whatever’s required when gathering needed Info for your project. For MSN, my focus was to become the best FNP I could become. Honestly, I can’t recall thinking about the stakeholders or any organizational challenges while in pursuit to become a NP. As a DNP, I’m expected to know it all or be resourceful enough get it when needed.

Yes MecoNP there is a gap. I started in the Spring so my gap is coming up now. I have not started clinicals yet but I have to say it is challenging finding a preceptor as many facilities in my area are not accepting new affiliation agreements and student rotations have been suspended for the time being. CONGRATS on your DNP!! That’s great! I should have...am in my second post MSN program!

@FNPDreams haha, yes you should have! There’s still time ya know ?

So is clinicals just one semester?

Yes CONGRATS! That is truly a wonderful and challenging accomplishment. It sounds a lot like Nursing Practice, & Organizational components...which I know is all very challenging.
Yes I’m wondering when will the restrictions will be lifted for Preceptorship.

No, there are 2 semesters of clinicals. 250 hours each (50 w/child/adolescent) So for me it would be Sept & again in Jan ‘21. The semesters are only 12 weeks long so it is challenging. I believe they do grant a little extra time to finish clinical hrs if you need them. I wish I wasn’t lying fallow during the Summer...LOL, but I’m going to try and get my suboxone waiver & a few other things. What state are you in? There is supposed to be a “residency” located somewhere near the clinical locations but I don't have any info about that.

How is the program? Is it doable? This will be my first Rodeo. I have my MSN in another concentration. So many people ask me why I didn’t go straight for the NP. I guess I feel like I wanted my Masters first.
