Why are nurses such back-stabbers?

Nurses Relations

Published

Why do nurses feel the need to "tattle" on colleagues to the boss for petty things? Behavior like this does nothing to elevate our profession and everything to keep us down. Why are there some nurses who feel superior when they tell on someone to the manager? This recently happened to me and I thought I had a good rapport with my co-workers yet one of them ratted me out to the boss on an off-the-cuff remark that I made. Why does this happen? Is it because the majority of nurses are women and women are catty individuals. I'm a woman btw. From now on though, I am just going to do my work, and only talk to the other nurses/aides about clinically relevant stuff only. Other than that, I'll keep my nose in a book. Actually, I won't be working at this current place much longer. There are staffing issues that put my license in jeoprady so I am starting a job hunt after the holidays.

So, why do we do this to eachother?

I think you are going to find this behavior in all areas of employment - men included. It has to do with people's insecurities and fears. Worrying about who to impress - they also come to work and make "friends" instead of co-workers. Work is work, we are professionals who need to be professional, keep our private lives private, and care for our patients and do what we became nurses for - TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE !!:nurse:

Part of it has to do with the fact that women are just like that (i am female btw), and I think the other part of it is some people will do whatever it takes to make themselves look better to the "higher ups". I prefer to keep those types of nurses out of the profession.

let me tell u 1 thing all girls jealous to each other ang nursing proffesion is possesd by girls

Huh?????????

They do it because they are mostly females and thats what little girls do....it is behavior that they learned as children and never grew up. They also teach nurses to tattle on each other in school.

And as for other careers I have had many banking, construction retail and military I have been in healthcare now for 6 years and nurses are by far the biggest tattle tales and backstabers I have ever seen. I am a nurse and I can say without a doubt that as a group nurses are the worst group of people I have ever encountered.

nevermind

The only team I am on is my patient's team. Everyone else can go to hell, in the professional sense of the term of course.

As a professional registered nurse it is my professional duty and legal obligation to report any action or inaction that would endanger the welfare of the patients. In addition to this, I am again compelled by professional integrity and mandated by state law to report any behavior that can be seen as immoral, unprofessional, unethical, or other behavior that demonstrates a lack of professional integrity.

There is no room for the "old boys club" in nursing, there are too many lives at stake for that garbage.

OMG you sound like a quote from some ethics text book ;and you miss quoted the name of the club It's "The Good Old Boys club" And I think your being a little over zealous in what you think you need to report. You are required by law to report any act that puts a patient at harm there is no legal responsibility to report another nurse for "ANY"act that may be seen as unprofessional or immoral ;If so almost every nurse I know would have to be reported on a weekly basis for what they do after a few to many drinks to some randome guy in the backseat of a Jaguar or something similar in a bar parking lot.

You need to think more like a man; we say whats on our mind ,and you can say anything to anyone as long as nobody else can hear...In your case whatever that person told your boss you said when questioned about it all you need to say is "What?....No she said that that s*&t to me"..and as long as nobody heard you she cant prove anything.

Have you heard of the ANA code of ethics? In my state, nurse-executives are mandated to report nurses caught using drugs on the job...unless the nurse enrolls in a program which requires temporary license surrender.

"The Old Boys Club" refers to an oligarchy of wealthy power brokers who generally maintain their control through graft, bribery, threats, thuggery, shady deals and the like. They look the other way when one of them commits a crime. This is also known as "the smoke-filled room". The "Good Old Boys Club" (if such a thing existed) would probably consist of a few stereotypical "redneck" types at the local bar spending their paychecks on booze and perhaps (in serious instances) meth. They tend to be overdue for a trip to the dentist by at least 12 years.

Since it is highly unlikely that most of the women you work with actually engage in the recreational activity you mentioned I'd have to just agree "another misogynist heard from".

It's also a really bad idea to advise someone to lie about what they said when asked about it.
