Why can't I do everything a RN does as a LPN? We should be equal.

Published

Why do RN's make more when we practically do the SAME THING. I don't understand how RN's having the ability to start IV's and give a few medications IV push make them more valuable than an LPN. Those extra courses you take to become RN's, heck even BSN's don't add anything clinically. When I am on the floor, WE DO THE SAME THING, yet I take home 30% less than my RN/BSN colleagues. Does anyone else agree that us as LPNS should be able to make the same salary? I hope the Affordable Healthcare Act (AHR) addresses this issue with EQUAL PAY for EQUAL work. We are a lot cheaper to higher than RN's so hopefully the (AHC) will realize this and create more of a demand for efficient LPN's that are easier to train, and cheaper to higher, thus bringing RN wages on par with our wages. It just doesn't make sense for the hospital to pay a RN $25-30/hr to start, while I make $22/hr and have more than 18 years experience. Any thoughts?

Obama will figure this out, and phase RNs out since LPNs are cheaper, and then have NP's phase doctors because that's cheaper. That's how you solve healthcare in America.

What? lol :cyclops:

SweetPoo, did you actually read any of the articles that we posted for you?

Yes, because that is what the President does. What have I been thinking all these years?

This might be condescending which I don't really care if it is, but I pray (and I'm not even religious, but this is bad enough that I am praying) that I don't have to work with nurses like you once I'm an RN. It would likely give you a heart attack to hear someone say they disagree with you in person.

Obama will make LPNs the standard of nursing, and they will bump NP's up into the role of physicians and take over. RN will have 2 options go back to school and get a NP or work with LPNs doing the same thing making what we make now. Only way to solve this health care debate. Only Fair way to do this. We have to save these pts, while maintaining affordable care. That option solves it.

There are many jobs where people do much of the same thing and one is paid more. Education is rated higher than experience.

I was an LPN and as an RN worked with awesome LPNs and was trained by one as a new grad. I have nothing negative to say about the skills or knowledge or most any LPN I've worked with.

Many of us are returning to school for a BSN in order to be "qualified" for jobs we already do with the same license and some of us won't even get a pay increase. I would expect LPNs to do the same if they wish for more pay or greater responsibility.

Oh yeah, they are really going to do away with RN's when having just a small increase of LPN's is proven to increase mortality rates significantly.... Did you read the articles that we all left for you? Trying to talk to you is worse than talking to a wall, you do not acknowledge anything that actually makes sense....

PLEASE don't bring the POTUS into this. Geez, first that's not even in the scope of the POTUS, congress passes laws. Second, no. Nurses are educators and that is why, despite how clear it is that you refuse to recognize logic, we are all on this thread trying to find different ways to explain to you what we already understand.

Thank you, finally someone who sees what I've been saying. You RN's have become too "great and elite" to now dismiss us as LPNs as a real professions.
