Why hospitals wouldn't give a job to a new grad?

I guess, I just don't get it. Why hospitals wouldn't accept new grads? If there a nursing shortage and they are looking for experienced nurses why not to train a new grad? Is it laziness? Is it not wanting to accept responsibility? Is it we don't care attitude? How a new grad can get this experience if denied to apply in every hospital because there are no openings for new grads? OK. I don't care if I'm in medsurg or in ER, or maternity anymore. I just want to get a job. Nursing homes tell me they need LVNs, not RNs, outpatient wouldn't take me either. I have searched numerous websites and still nothing. I thought as soon as I graduate I'd be able to get a job. So far I haven't left my home for a week and just stay on line and look for a job. Nothing! I cry, I pray, but no one can hear. I just want to be a nurse!

Totally unprofessional. I really can't believe you would suggest this. Nurses are professional and need to behave as so. Period. You don't behave in a way that demands respect then you won't get it!

Well, at least it made me smile. May be it is unprofessional, but if you read everything literally and can't lighten up it is not smart. I have been crying all week and if something made me smile I take it as having sense of humor and the professionalism is the the last on my list now, while a lot of people trying to bit me up that i haven't done my job search correctly.

I was told by HR at a large Nashville hospital the market for nurses is firming up. By this she meant that new grads are a dime a dozen and most of the openings are for experienced nurses in fields like OB and med surg. Still, new grad positions will open up a couple of times a year, though there will be competition because these nursing schools are like a faucet that can't be shut off.

Be persistent and you will find your opportunity, just don't expect to walk in a hospital and be hired on the spot. There is no nursing shortage where new grads are concerned.

Oh my gosh...i just looked at your link and under nursing assistants one place had "Ability to read and write desirable."

What do they mean? That if you are a nursing assistant you can't read or write?! Wow! This is pretty bad! How can they even assume that!!!

I had to relocate to find a new grad position. There is a brand new hospital opening up in Palmdale, CA. I am certain they need nurses.

Please tell me how I can get licensed in a different state? I currently hold an RN license in CA. Thanks!

I'm having to do the same. From Nashville, Tennessee to Little Rock, Arkansas the only position I could find (RN I) was at a hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas. Actually, Baptist in Nashville called me back for a second interview but it was too late because I had already accepted a position at this other hospital and made plans to move.
