Feeling a bit homesick today. Moved to US with my American hubby in Feb. I have lived here before but we have just spent 3 years in England and I was really looking forward to coming back here. Now I am here, I miss England. Whats with that! Its true...the grass is always greener and I don't why it takes moving away to see whats good about a place. In England I HATED my job, my fellow workers were great but the department I worked in was a typical toxic NHS enviroment and I think it just colored my time there. Don't have a job here yet and I am going through the motions to get my licence but it takes so long!
What am I missing.......decent newspapers and news programs (I am a news junkie), considerate drivers, decent supermarkets (Waitrose....boohooo......), loose earlgrey tea, Green and Blacks dark cherry chocolate :loveya: , recycling centres, English pubs. And to make it worse, the weather is beautiful over there today and there is no where like England in the sun.
Ok, I am not moaning as I do really love the States and I know this wil pass....... Just feeling blue....
I dont think the grass is greener it is just different and it is fun finding out about that different grass. We have no grass we live in the desert with cacti and terrible creepy crawlies but I watched a programme on TV last night which showed worse creepy crawlies in Africa-so my grass is greener now.
I have to say after a few months of living here you stop missing the food back home because you find what you need, and you can always buy choccy at the World Market or the www.britstore.com which will ship over in 5 days. We still dream of proper fish and chips, but to be truthful it is quite nice laughing about it when we drool at the mouth.
News well we try to keep up but it is impossible and too difficult, we use the internet but I rely on information coming from back home.
I do miss coloured toilet paper to match my bathroom, as there is only white here!!!!
Do you know, I never noticed there isn't any coloured loo roll here! Thats really funny!
And the good thing about their being no newspapers like there is in England, is that I don't have to read about Katie and Pete or whoever is King and Queen of tabloid land or any of the Big Brother 'stars'. Talking of Big Brother, it must be coming up! If thats not reason to move from the UK I don;t know what is! (apologies to those who like it!)
