Why is the grass always greener....

Feeling a bit homesick today. Moved to US with my American hubby in Feb. I have lived here before but we have just spent 3 years in England and I was really looking forward to coming back here. Now I am here, I miss England. Whats with that! Its true...the grass is always greener and I don't why it takes moving away to see whats good about a place. In England I HATED my job, my fellow workers were great but the department I worked in was a typical toxic NHS enviroment and I think it just colored my time there. Don't have a job here yet and I am going through the motions to get my licence but it takes so long!

What am I missing.......decent newspapers and news programs (I am a news junkie), considerate drivers, decent supermarkets (Waitrose....boohooo......), loose earlgrey tea, Green and Blacks dark cherry chocolate :loveya: , recycling centres, English pubs. And to make it worse, the weather is beautiful over there today and there is no where like England in the sun.

Ok, I am not moaning as I do really love the States and I know this wil pass....... Just feeling blue....:bluecry1:

Well right now it's raining cats & dogs, is cold & is going to be the usual wet, horrible bank holiday weekend!

You can get leaf tea delivered straight from Sri Lanka if you so desire - just look on-line for stockists. On the subject of on-line - you can get all the news you want from the BBC website & I also saw a post here about subscribing to BBC TV over the Internet search the threads.

Personally I didn't find the US supermarkets that bad - Publix reminds me of Sainsburys. Plus you have Target to shop in - I LOVE Target.

The local supermarket where our house in FL is has a whole English shelf - it had real Dairy Milk imported & Yorkie Bars too as well as other stuff like Bisto granules. Plus I know you can get stuff from Blighty on-line - OK it costs but sometimes it might just be worth it!

Hope the feeling passes soon! Just remember the things that really bothered you & concentrate on the fact that you don't have to deal with those anymore!:)

This will make you laugh OG said to me last night it strange but I am missing shopping in M&S- I said what you hated shopping when we lived in the UK and M&S was the worst shopping trip for you ever- He said I know -I cannot work it out we both just fell about laughing.

So I guess missing things is human nature- we are a misrable breed at heart. LOL :monkeydance:

Sorry to side track. But I notice you are in AZ, what's it really like in AZ the Phoenix area? I have a job offer with Sunrise Recruiter but wanted to go to Dallas/Fort-Worth area but will come AZ if option one falls thru. I have lived in London 16yrs and did not want to go to another big city so was looking at the population as well coz London is kinda crowded. It would be nice to hear from someone who is from the UK and with children how are you finding it?

You can PM me so I do not divert the thread too much but am sure others would want to hear.

Thanks

Haha! That is pretty funny as my husband said the same thing about Waitrose!

Thanks for yor comments! I am feeling much better today and am heading down the beach to have a picnic later with my husband. We never used to that every weekend in England!

Have a good memorial day w/e to those over here and bank holiday for those in the UK!

Have a great day on the beach. Just some quick info, Target now has a 'Boots" section. 'World Market' sells lots of British foods. And if you are anything to do with the base, the commisary has a lot of British sweets.

You can get the London Times at Borders and Barnes and Noble, especially the weekend editions. BBC news is also available on cable, watch it all of the time.

Loose Earl Grey tea is available all over. As well as those chocolates. Recycle centers all over over as well, but that may be state specific. Not sure about Florida with that.

There is a chain called Cost Plus, they carry imported foods and accessories. You can find most things there. Also try Whole Foods as well.

Hope that this helps.:balloons:

Thanks for the tips! I have just ordered some earl grey online and I even have a stash of chocolate hobnobs to go with my cuppa when the tea arrives! I had a look in the Commisary and they have a few bits and pieces and I will head down World Market and have a butchers!

Had a funny, surreal moment on the beach today.... all of a sudden I hear the unmistakeable sound of bagpipes and this guy is just walking up and down the beach playing bagpipes! Strange but true....

Hi LT

Well my family and I have been in AZ for six months so far so good- We live in gilbert which is in the phx metro area- it is a city but nothing like london loads of space not crowed at all.

Gilbert is lovely we are close to everything there are loads of hospitals to choose to work in there are loads of excelling schools to choose from loads of parks, shops, malls, eating places every type you like and the mountains are close so is the zoo and lakes. For us it is a rally good choice of place to live- rule of thumb try and work in the bit of the valley you are going to live in so for us it is the east valley hence no long comutes.

Are you commited to an recrutment company?

Feel free to PM me
