Who's Who in American Jr Colleges

I just got a letter a few days ago from Who's Who in the nursing and healthcare field. I have no clue who nominated me. I'm not a nurse yet, won't start nursing school until next Tuesday and only work in the lab at our hospital. I'm not sure if I want to send it in our not.

I got nominated to the Manchester WHo's who in January. I sent it in :) It is a recognition thing. More resume padding LOL ANd for the record, I don't start clinicals til August (but I'm a Dean's list student for my pre-req's, which I am assuming is how I got invited.) I know there have been threads on this in the past - you may want to do a search :) HTH and congrats!

Funny, I got one last week, too. I was wondering if they got my name from a Nursing mag subscription list? It looked like a form letter to me...

This is what it states on Manchester's Who's Who web site:

How did you get my name?

Our research staff may have chosen you as a candidate by researching, professional associations and societies, trade organizations, newspapers and magazines, and professional reference publications. However, we do not keep records of the source of your candidacy selection on file.

When I was finishing my pre reqs for my RN-BSN program I got one of those letters as well. Come to find out, my history instructor nominated me. My letter was actually from the community college that I was attending. He submitted my name, the Dean or whoever they appointed checked my grades to make sure I was eligible.

It does look good on applications when applying for scholarships.

Congrats to all who receive this! This is a major recognition and something to be proud of!

I received this a year ago while still in pre-reqs. I didnt buy the book, but some other students did, and they showed me my name in the book. I simply couldnt afford it. I did end up going to the website, and I purchased a paperweight. (the cheapest thing LOL)

So be proud of your accomplishment on this and get something (even if a paperweight) that will be a memorable item for you! :)

Kudos. Not to undermine your accomplishments, but it really is a business. As was mentioend the book is very expensive, and profitable to the company. Their primarily objective is to sell books.

I recently got nominated for who's who in the business world or something like that, which is bogus because I've been a staff nurse for many years.

It's primarily a money-making venture, rather than a true recognition. But maybe I'm just bitter and overly negative about it.

I got nominated and got a nice little plaque to go on the wall. Other than that, nothing much. I didn't buy the book.

I was nominated as well a few months back. No, I won't buy the book, but I have it on my resume. And it was for "Executive and Professional Women in Nursing and Healthcare".

I was just looking through my college's handbook for an unrelated topic, and came across a paragraph about this - thought I'd post it :)

Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges

Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges is one of the most highly regarded and long-standing honor programs in the nation. Who's Who students are selected by their faculty to receive this recognition. To be selected, students must be in their second year, have an above average academic standing, be acknowledged for their participation in extracurricular activities, and be active in projects of community service. Who's Who students are named in the Fall term of their senior year.
