To the best of my knowledge with a little help from GOOGLE, I know of NO States (US) that require the BSN. Within my realm of knowledge of medical/nursing facilities none require BSN.

They tried the BSN only in the 70s and that non-BSN RN's would only be emptying bedpans!
I think when the BSN matters is if you want your MSN, a management position, to become a NP, or whenever the employing hospital places that as a hiring criteria.
Having lived through nursing for 30 years I still don't think the BSN will be the only nurse practicing. Happy Holidays to all.
Yes I was in the BSN program the year the ADNs were begun in our town. Let's see if I can recall that far back......1963 or 1964 I think.

I think at least 2 provinces in Canada require BSNs now.

I hear that NY is going to start in the next few years, but I think you are grandfathered in if you graduated before a certain year?? I know that in the NYC hospitals are not hiring ADN into specialty areas as new grads. I think that has more to do with most of these hospitals have BSN programs of thier own, and that is supposed to be an incentive to attend thier program

One of my professors told me that North Dakota requires a BSN, but I couldn't find any info about this on their website.

I was informed several years ago that Iowa and Idaho were close to requiring a BSN to practice. Never heard another word about it, that was in 1970. Does anyone know for sure or not if this is a requirement there?
I know at one time there was a law that did require nurses to have BSN, but I believe it has been repealed.

Having a BScN or BSN is now a requirement for entry to practice in Canada for ALL new RNs. As of 2005(?) old RNs were grandfathered in, but any new applicants must have BScN/BSN.

No you are wrong. It's not every province. I believe it's only Ontario.
