Just thought I'd see who else is all in a new RN program at a magnet hospital? I was only 2 of 16 nurses hired on at a level 1 Trauma/Teaching hospital (Froedtert, Milwaukee WI) that has a 2 year ADN. Seems as though the other 14 couldn't beleive me and a classmate were picked up (her in ICU, me in Trauma), when there were many more BSN applicants. Anyone else with similar luck?
Congrats :) Out of 16 hires we only took one AD...although the ones of us on the interview panel thought that 4 other ones stood out more than the BSN ones....but we have to keep a certain ration of BSN to AD and they tell us that. It sucks. Oh and we practically had to beg to get that one. I hate it.
Wow - this thread is an eye-opener. I guess I've believed all that I've read (mostly here) over the years: only BSN's need apply to Magnet hospitals.Good to know!
I think it depends on the hospital. A few of my classmates from CC who were employed as CNAs or techs by local magnet hospitals were hired as RNs once they got their AAS(N) and passed the NCLEX. However they - and all of the other ADN nurses at those hospitals - are required to obtain their BSN within some period of time (I believe 5 years). It will be interesting to see if nurses who do not get their BSN are dismissed when the window closes.
Since all of the external job postings at those hospitals state "BSN required", it is not likely that applications for nursing positions from outside ADNs will be considered. Obviously though, they do hire associate degree program graduates in certain limited circumstances.

*** None of the Magnet Hospitals here in Wisconsin have "BSN required" on their job postings. I think only one has "BSN preferred". The Magnet hospital where I work preferred ADNs for the Critical Care Nurse Residency program for those going into the SICU. BSN need not apply. It doesn't say that anywhere on their website but that is the way it is.
I used to sit on my hospital's Magnet committee. There is nothing about becoming or maintaining Magnet that requires a hospital to hire only BSN RNs.

You must be very good! Congratulations!:yeah:

Indreams84,Not at all trying to give you a hard time, just looking out for you. You have given way way too much identifying info.... city, hosptital, unit and that you are one of the very few two year grads. That's just asking for trouble, big trouble. I'd go back and edit your entry. PS Congrats, sounds like a great opportunity you earned.
no personal information, no patient info, no sex, no race...and all hiring done by HR is confidential. i just happened to know X amount of RNs in my orientation, etc. but i definitely can understand where you are coming from so thank you.

Congratulations!! I was hired by a magnet hospital with a year of experience as an ADN years back and this year our unit hired a new grad ADN who is more impressive imo than most of the BSN new grads I have worked with on the floor.
