Dumb question. What states have union jobs ( nursing) . I think if I belonged to a union, I might not be so inclined to quit nursing due to abuse.
I had a union job prior to nursing- IUE, so I know how they work.
Thanks

IN was on the list, but that is a limited number of facilities, mainly in the northern half. The southern part of the state is 0 as far as I know.
NE IN is not unionized, in the major hospital systems (there are 2 that dominate the area). I work in public education and we (nurses) are a part of the teachers union.
On line I found this bargaining update for St. Mary's hospital RNs in Reno. It is dated September 2013.

In October they settled a contract. They seemed to get a better deal with health insurance. They were unable to improve the previous contractual ratios of 1: 6 in med/surg and 1:5 in telemetry. The nurses wanted to improves these. They were already OK with their critical care ratio of 1:2 or fewer patients per RN.

Las Vegas St. Rose Dominican Dignity Health RNs and California dignity RNs have the same contract. Nurses I know who work at Dignity hospitals are pleased with their contract:

Yeah, they don't really advertise that you can opt-out and don't make the paperwork nice and simple. But for me it is worth it to make the statement. Yes, it is a different world today.
It's a one-page document that is given at time of hire, along with union signup forms, at the hospital I work at. Easy as pie. However, if I opt out, I would be opting out of union covered health coverage, life insurance, and free pension. There's stupid and then there's stupid. I didn't opt out.

I would be one of the ones that crosses the picket line. I would happily do it to send a message to the unions that I do not support them.
