Which Specialty Do You Have Your Eye On?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

In between the stresses of pre-reqs, applications, interviews, and entrance exams, it's fun to kick back and imagine our careers as fully-fledged RNs!

Discuss the specialties that just really stick out to you. You can say a bit about why you think that specialty is a good fit for you. If you're not sure, you're still welcome to jump in and explore your options with us!

While we know that maybe our minds might change in nursing school and plans go awry, what is the harm in dreaming and planning?

I'll go first: Trauma, critical care (of any kind), and emergency sound wonderful to me. Nursing research and/or informatics could also be highly interesting for post-grad. I love technical skills and improving patient outcomes.

Whenever I make it into the field I would love to do either ER or Psych. I've had PCT clinicals in the ER and it was just the place for me. I am all about blood and guts and the fast pace of it all. It was great. I have a special place in my heart for the Psych patients. Sometimes they can't control their behavior and I just want to be there for them in any way possible.

I love how you say that. Those that go into that field hold a special place in my heart on many personal reasons. They are wonder ful caring people who deal with those that are in constant battle with their own mind.

Labor and Delivery for now not sure what will happen when clinicals start. I have an interest in Postpartum care. Ultimately, I would like to become a lactation consultant.

L&D for me too. Its always been my goal, however that isnt to say that in the next two years I wont stumble upon something that speaks to my heart in a bigger way.

Specializes in Pediatric Home Care, Dr Office/Clinic.

@nurse2b7337 & @brookericksSn we should KIT since we all want to go into L & D :)

lol i hear ya. after reading this thread it seems like alot of peeps want to go into LD.... we will be fighting over jobs :)

Orthopaedic Nursing Baby! :-)

I'm leaning towards NICU- I want to be an NNP. Although, when I first started this journey less than 6 months ago, I wanted to be a CNM, so I'm reserving the right to change my mind once I get into clinicals.

Where are all the OR peeps? lol! I'd love to be front row to some interesting procedures. (Maybe that's all the Grey's Anatomy-watching, but it would still be cool nontheless) :)

Hello all! This is my first time posting! Been lurking for a long while, but recently registered. I have been officially accepted into my school's Spring 2012 2-year program!:yeah: This thread caught my attention because I am always thinking about what I want to specialize in. I am definetly leaning towards ER, but maybe after clinicals I will change my mind!

i am planning on going on to become a community based CNM! :)

Definitely leaning towards neuroscience nursing or maybe psych...my first BA is in Biopsychology, so that's where my interests are. I'm starting school in January, so I might change my mind after some experience in clinicals. But it is fun to think about! :)
