Wrong attitude - you want the benefits and respect of the military without the risk! Shame on you.

Agree....wrong attitude. All branches go active....especially when we are actively engaged overseas.....and in 2 different places at that. What branch you are in just has to do with what kind of work and and exactly where you might be deployed to. Have lost a friend in army reserves when he deployed to Iraq. Have a guy in my A&P class that is in the local airforce reserve wing that just came back from Iraq not too long ago. The least likely way to be forced to go active is to not join the military in any way.

Please don't join the military with the idea that you don't/can't deploy. This is only going to result in great frustration for you.

In a time of war, it's not a matter of if, but when.
I have a friend that is in the Navy reserves on his way to Afghanistan next month. I have 2 other friends in the military on their way. I have a friend that spoke with an Army recruiter and they flat out told him he would eventually deploy.
Then why do people join the reserves if they are willing to go active?
I see no shame in wanting a part time job in a military hospital.
No, I want the part time benefits in return for working part time.
And by the way, I am a veteran. I have risked my life many times already.
They are willing to go active, but dont want to be active military when they are not deployed. Military you are active military all the time...that is the job....and then you get deployed when need be. Reserves you put in the time you are required .....what is it? one weekend a month and a full week or two a year.....and then otherwise are inactive and hold a civilian job/are a student/whatever.... unless/until you are activated to be deployed. Difference between reserves and active military is not willingess to be deployed.....it is how you want to spend the time that you are not deployed.
I am willing to be deployed, and would if called, but I would prefer not to.
I liked the military enough to want to do it part time.
That's the rationale for my question.
